Commissary gift vouchers

The Defense Commissary Agency is offering gift vouchers at all of its 254 commissaries. These vouchers are available in $25 denominations. Anyone may acquire gift vouchers; however, only commissary authorized patrons may redeem them. Vouchers are available at commissary customer service areas, cash offices and from cashiers at full-service checkout lanes. There is no limit on the number of vouchers someone can purchase. But for large purchases of more than $1,000 in vouchers at a time, you must notify the store at least one week in advance. This allows commissaries to maintain enough vouchers for other customers.

AAFES spot checks

AAFES offers the convenience of 24-hour payment at the pump, like most gas stations across the country. However, only authorized patrons are allowed to purchase fuel at AAFES facilities, unlike most gas stations. As a result, there are often questions about who is using the pumps at Fort Bliss and how that usage is monitored.

AAFES currently has signs posted at our gas pumps that state, “ID Requirements: Purchases at this activity are restricted to authorized personnel possessing a valid ID card. Patrons in civilian dress are required to present ID cards to attendant or cashier on duty when requested.”

If unauthorized civilians are found to be  using the gas pumps, AAFES will report them to the post commander. In addition to the signage, AAFES does conduct spot checks.

Assessments will be completed within a 72-hour time period by the EAP with a guarantee for all management and self referrals. The EAP will refer requiring treatment or rehabilitation to an appropriate treatment agency within 72 hours of a completed EAP assessment.  The office is open Monday through Friday, from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.  For more information, call Delilah Santiago at 568-2778.

These services and many others are available through www.Tutor.com, a free service for families and spouses of active, wounded, reserve component, National Guard and Army civilians (including survivors). Students of any age, in any grade – including kindergarten through 12th grade, college students and adult students – can get help in math, science, English and social studies.

Army-affiliated students submit a one-time registration to obtain their CYSS passcode. Students can then use it to log in from home or from the CYSS Youth Technology Lab. They enter the grade level and subject they need help in and are then connected to the first available subject expert tutor in an online classroom. Students and tutors work together in an online classroom using controlled chat and an interactive white board. Students can send computer files, such as essays, to the tutor for review and assistance. They can also share educational websites. VVA U.S. flags

The Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 844 in Northeast El Paso, is looking to assist the El Paso and Fort Bliss community by helping them clean their dirty American flags. Dirty U.S. flags can be taken to “The Cleaners,” found in the local yellow pages.  However, if you are the proud owner of a U.S. flag that has been flown and displayed so much that it is past serviceability, it should be retired with honor and respect. The VVA is in the process of placing boxes at civic organizations and veterans organizations across town.  The proud flags will then receive a dignified ceremony at our monthly meeting complete with the playing of taps and hand salutes, then turned over to the Boy Scout Council for the flags’ final trip to glory. To find out where a drop box is currently located or to request a drop box to be placed at your location, call 241-3964 or 751-2535.
