Carpet presented for longstanding partnership with Army
Special to The Monitor
Receiving a carpet representing their headquarters, the German Air Force Command of the U.S./ Canada symbolically moved into the Fort Bliss Museum last month.
Peter Poessiger, director of the Fort Bliss Museum, presented a carpet with the coat of arms of the German Air Force Command Feb. 11, to German Air Force Col. Michael Kuhn, commander of GAFCOM (U.S./Canada).
All major commands stationed at Fort Bliss are represented in the museum by a similar carpet. Honoring their longstanding partnership with the U.S. Army, the GAFCOM (U.S./Canada) has finally received their own crest carpet.

From now on that carpet will demonstrate the presence of the German Air Force Command and be part of the decoration during all kinds of GAFCOM events, such as change-of-command ceremonies, receptions and educational presentations.
Poessiger, who has German ancestors and speaks German fluently, thanked the German Air Force for years of outstanding cooperation with all the German headquarters at Fort Bliss. He also pointed out that due to the ongoing restructuring efforts the museum is transforming from an air defense museum to an armor museum.
During the presentation, Kuhn responded by thanking Poessiger, who has been the museum’s director for 10 years, for fostering and actually “living” the German-American partnership and for putting his heart and soul in it from his very first day in that position.
Honoring his unreserved cooperation and support on the occasion of countless receptions, educational presentations and major events such as “Berlin Airlift: 60th Anniversary,” Kuhn presented Poessiger with a certificate of appreciation and a commander’s coin.
Poessiger assured that the certificate would be given a place of honor at his office.
