2002
A dynamic year for Fort Bliss

The year 2002 was a dynamic year for Fort Bliss, as it was for the rest of our world. The photos on these pages are intended to review some of what happened here last year.

Last February, the Law Certification Course kicked off its mission of training Department of the Army civilian police in one of the most vital processes in day-to-day living on Fort Bliss: force protection.

In March, soldiers had the chance to see their commander-in-chief in person as President George W. Bush spoke at El Paso International Airport.

History was made in July when Col. Heidi Brown took command of 31st ADA Brigade, becoming the first woman to command an ADA brigade.

Other key moments last year included the May opening of the Sergeant Major of the Army Silas L. Copeland deployment facility at Biggs Army Airfield, Center Command Sgt. Maj. Stanley L. Davis succeeding Maj. Mark C. Avery in November and the renaming of Center Gym to the Ronald D. Milam Physical Fitness Center in October. Milam lost his life in the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attack on the Pentagon.
