Day Service at Fort Bliss National Cemetery
Fort Bliss will conduct Memorial Day Services at the Fort Bliss National
Cemetery at 11:45 a.m., Monday. The services will honor those servicemembers
who gave their lives for their country.
Speakers include the Fort Bliss National Cemetery Director Robert Flitcraft
and Fort Bliss Commander Maj. Gen. Michael A. Vane. The ceremony includes
a National Salute (21-gun salute), the raising of the National flag,
and a wreath laying ceremony. Local Gold Star parent Amalia Estrella
will participate in the wreath laying.
The ceremony is open to the public; there is no cost involved. Area
Veterans organizations are invited to bring their organizational colors
and participate in the Presentation of the Colors. Those organizations
wishing to participate should contact the Public Affairs Office at 568-2497.
The Fred Wilson entrance to the Cemetery will be closed for the duration
of this ceremony. To access parking, guests should use the entrances
to Fort Bliss. Vehicles not registered on Fort Bliss should use the
Cassidy or Robert E. Lee gates. Drivers should have their driver’s
license, proof of insurance and vehicle registration. Parking for the
ceremony will be in three designated parking areas outside the cemetery
gates (see map). Bus transportation will shuttle guests between the
parking areas and the ceremony. Handicapped parking inside the cemetery
is available only for those vehicles marked with the official handicapped
logo on the license plate or the placard.
