During the DA inspection, the “No Fear” Soldiers are looking to improve their menu for the competition the Soldiers have already been preparing for the December inspection.

Food service workers from B Battery, 1st Battalion, 7th Air Defense Artillery are proving they are the best at what they do. Last month the “No Fear” cooks placed in the top three in the Army-wide Philip A. Connelly FORSCOM food service field competition. Their fine showing at FORSCOM level places them in the top six in the entire Army. Now, the Bravo 1-7 cooks are looking to be the best Army-wide.

Department of the Army food service inspectors will travel to Fort Bliss in December to evaluate 1-7. Food service supervisor, Chief Warrant Officer Raymond Patrick, 108th ADA Brigade, said he’s happy his Soldiers have made it this far, but he adds that with improvement they can come away as the best in the Army. “In the last inspection [the FORSCOM inspectors] gave us advice on how to improve. If we improve our site, start training on the meals, keep up on equipment maintenance and practice on the menus, we should do fine.”
During the inspection, 1-7 will be able to choose the food they serve. It will consist of heating and serving meals, and meals that are made with fresh ingredients. Patrick said the key is to be unique with how they prepare and serve the food to the Soldiers. “We simply need to improve on the menu.”

The Soldiers taking part in the competition also have support from the brigade and battalion leadership. 1-7 Bn. Commander Lt. Col. Brant Dayley, is confident in the skills of his troops. “Bravo is leading the charge, and the battalion and brigade are helping in every way possible. We are very confident that our Soldiers will impress the evaluators with their professionalism and dedication to the mission, and at the end of the day they will be victorious.”

Dayley praised the work and dedication of his Soldiers for their support of the battalion and brigade. He said their work is essential to the success of their missions. “Food service specialists are unsung heroes. They work long hours in our dining facilities and field mess kitchen trailers, and it’s sometimes difficult to recognize their contribution to our Soldiers’ quality of life.

“ Just competing for the opportunity to represent Fort Bliss gave these Soldiers the opportunity to showcase their talents. We have great Soldiers doing thankless tasks every day, and this competition gives them the opportunity to demonstrate their dedication to excellence. The entire brigade is supporting Bravo with resources and encouragement.”

The Phillip A. Connelly DA food service competition has already begun. Last week, 13th Maintenance Company, 31st ADA Bde. was the first unit to be inspected and was featured in last week’s Monitor. The inspectors will then travel to Fort Bragg, N.C., Fort Wainwright, Ala., Ansbach, Germany, Camp Red Cloud, Korea, and then back to Fort Bliss to inspect 1-7 in December.
