New small arms rifle range dedicated SPC Jason Stadel
Congressman Silvestre Reyes fires the first rounds at the newly dedicated Range 43. It’s been more than a decade since Fort Bliss has seen a new small arms rifle range. With the combined efforts of the Soldiers and civilians of the United States Army Combined Arms Support Battalion, and Fort Bliss, a 16-lane, state-of-the-art, pop-up target rifle range is ready to go hot. Fort Bliss Commanding General, Maj. Gen. Michael Vane and El Paso Congressman Silvestre Reyes were the keynote speakers for the range dedication held Friday at Doña Ana Range Complex. “We’ve made this post more effective and more efficient to help the Soldiers with this war that will be with us for the next few years,” Vane said. Reyes spoke to the Soldiers and civilians of the USACAS Battalion complimenting their hard work and dedication. “This range will make a huge difference as we continue to work in defense of our country,” said Reyes. “Each one of you is an important part in keeping this country safe and secure.” The range dedicated was Range 43, until now an inactive Combat Pistol range. The state-of-the-art Portable Deployable Target Mechanisms were purchased for $550,000. The money used to pay for the range came from internal sources and saved more than one million dollars. “With the support of the commanding general and the Garrison Command, we took on the mission to improve the training capability on Fort Bliss in support of mobilizing Soldiers deploying to fight the global war on terrorism,” USACAS Battalion Commander, Lt. Col. Michael Sippel said. “To that end the dedicated civilians and Soldiers from this battalion worked long hours and for several months planning and executing the design and revitalization of this range.” Rifle qualification began on range 43 earlier this week.
