Tactical
Equipment Shop 31st CSH breaks ground
for new building

31st ADA Bde.
Fort Bliss Commanding
General Maj. Gen. Michael A. Vane and Texas Congressman Silvestre Reyes
joined Soldiers and leaders of 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade and
representatives of William Beaumont Army Medical Center Friday for the
official start of construction on a Tactical Equipment Shop for the
31st Combat Support Hospital.
Vane, Reyes and Col. Jeff Oeser, commander of 31st ADA Bde., moved the
first shovels of dirt and sand during the 30-minute groundbreaking ceremony.
“This groundbreaking is the first step in construction of a Tactical
Equipment Shop for the 31st CSH,” said Vane. “They’ve
been taking care of Soldiers over in Iraq ... This new facility is a
real welcome-home surprise, just one part of what this post is trying
to do [to enhance Soldier care].”
The new Tactical Equipment Shop will be built by Urban Associates. The
construction began Nov. 2 and should end in December of next year. The
facility will provide and enhance the maintenance abilities of the CSH,
as well as enable additional storage and organizational parking for
the unit.
The 31st CSH deploys with forward units, establishes and maintains hospital
and emergency medical facilities to aid U.S. and coalition servicemembers,
as well as civilians and captured combatants or enemy personnel. Deployed
through most of 2004, a portion of the CSH returned from Operation Iraqi
Freedom II/III earlier this year, and the remaining Soldiers –
roughly 400 of them – are scheduled to return early next year.
