Council
meeting
The next Commissary Council Meeting will be held Nov. 30 at 10 a.m.

Environemental forum
The next Environmental Forum will be Nov. 18 at 10 a.m., at the Fort
Bliss Museum and Study Center, Bldg. 1735, Auditorium. Agenda: 1) recycling,
2) substitution of hazardous materials, 3) use of alternative fuels,
4) scrap metal, and 5) ECO responsibilities for re-deploying units.
Everyone interested in environmental issues is welcome. The forum is
of particular interest to environmental compliance officers, hazardous
waste generators, vehicle maintenance and other motor pool personnel,
paint booth operators, fuel handlers, pesticide applicators, and water

Native American heritage
Fort Bliss Soldiers will conduct a Native American Heritage Month Observance
Nov. 18, from 1:30-2:30 p.m., in Soldier Hall, Bldg. 2. This ceremony
will honor the contributions Native Americans have made to the nation’s
history.
This year’s theme is “Honoring Life, Honoring Elders, Honoring
Heritage.” Anyone who would like to participate is encouraged
to contact Master Sgt. Thomp-son at 568-1998.
This event is free and open to the Fort Bliss and El Paso communities.
Civilian leave donor program
Mary Bonilla, WBAMC, has been approved as a leave recipient under the
Leave Transfer Program. Employees wanting to donate annual leave
to Bonilla may do so by submitting Operational Form (OF) 630-A

Juanita Scott, Fort Bliss Child Development Center has been approved

ACS closure
Army Community Service/Family Assistance Center located in Bldg. 2494
will be closed Nov. 11-14 in observance of the Veterans Day Holiday.

Celebrity waiters gala
From the days as the bubbly blond dancer on TV’s laugh in, to
her roles as a comedic actress in films such as Private Benjamin to
director and now Mom to daughter Kate Hudson, Goldie Hawn is at the
top of the Hollywood “A” list.
The celbrity gala will be Friday, tickets for the Celebrity Waiters

Family conference
In conjunction with National Family Week, Christ Cathedral and Omega
Vision presents “Champion Family Team Strategies,” Nov.

Thanksgiving food baskets
The Northeast Christian Academy Christian Honor Society is sponsoring
their annual Thanksgiving Food Basket Drive now through Nov. 19. Their
goal is to provide a food basket for 25 plus families. Be a blessing
to these families by donating canned goods and other food items. You

Upward Basktball league
Sun Valley Baptist Church is starting its Upward Basketball leagues
Nov. 30. Upward Basketball promotes character and self-esteem in every
child by providing: equal playing time for every player, one-hour practice
and one game each week of the season and much more. Every player will
receive reversible jersey, T-shirt. Registration fee is $50 for each

Adopt a Soldier
Due to the overwhelming outreach of the El Paso Community, all Soldiers
have been adopted for this Thanksgiving season. Families interested
in adopting Soldiers can still call 568-4256 to be placed on a stand-by
list, and those families will also be the first to receive Soldiers
next Thanksgiving. When you call, we will need your name, telephone
number, and the number of soldiers you are willing to host in your home.
Youth bowlers program
The Fort Bliss Knights Men’s and Lady Keglers Club unanimously
voted to donate $800 to the Fort Bliss Chapter of the Young American
Bowling Association. The money has been further designated to defray
the cost of youth representing Fort Bliss in the El Paso YABA Travel
League. The Knights adopted the Fort Bliss YABA in 2003. They provide
directors, coaches, teachers and mentors to participating youth from
Fort Bliss and the Greater El Paso community. The Knights, a not-for-profit
bowling club, conducts year-round fund-raising activities to support
Fort Bliss YABA, the Muscular Dystrophy Association and Special Olympics,
to name a few. Many Knight members are active or retired servicemembers,
civilian employees, and family members that enjoy bowling, helping the
community and just plain having fun in competitive environments. If

Bowling tournament
The Fort Bliss Knights and the Fort Bliss Bowling Center will host the
Men’s Bi-National Friendship Bowling Association Bowling Tournament,
Jan. 22-23, 2005. This is one of the largest events of its type in this
area with over 150 bowlers competing for individual and team honors.
The clubs are from West Texas, New Mexico and Mexico. A total of more
than 30 teams will compete in this two-day event that will showcase
some of the area’s most talented bowlers. Bowlers will compete
in five distinct skill level divisions based on bowling average. Opening
ceremonies begin at 9:30 a.m., Jan. 22, 2005. Each five-man team will
bowl six games Saturday and four more games beginning at 10 a.m. Sunday.
The team champions in each division are determined by total pin fall
in their respective divisions. The top eight bowlers in each division
will compete in an elimination culminating in a two-game roll-off for
individual championship honors in each division. Come out and cheer
your friends, associates, military, and civilian competitors. There
is no charge for spectators who wish to watch this exciting tournament

MWR opens wellness center
Fort Bliss community members now have another fitness alternative to
the main gyms. MWR will open a Civilian Wellness Center in Bldg. 251
on Club Rd, just beside the Fort Bliss Officers’ Club. The site
will also host the Civilian Fitness Program’s Manager’s
Office. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to
5 p.m., closed for lunch from 1-2 p.m. The facility features circuit
training equipment, cardio, light dumbbells, and Thera Bands. For information,

Central registration office moves
The Fort Bliss Child and Youth Services Central Registration and Family
Child Care offices have moved to the ITR Bldg. 1743 on Victory Ave.
The move allows CYS to better accommodate customers and concentrate
solely on the registration of children into the program. Current hours
of operation for Central Registration are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through
Friday. FCC hours of operation are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Border display
There’s still time to see the “Lost and Found” exhibit
at UTEP, which features items left behind by immigrants making their
way illegally into the United States along the Arizona-Sonora, Mexico,
border.
Tattered baby shoes, ragged mud-stained clothes and scraps of a stroller
are on display as part of the exhibit by recognized photographer and
author Maeve Hickey through Nov. 24 at the Centennial Museum at UTEP.
The exhibit also includes black-and-white images of the harsh desert
paths immigrants cross through the Cabeza Prieta National Wildlife Refuge
in Arizona. Photographs of smiling family and fiends in Mexico from
a roll of film found along the desert are also featured.
“Lost and Found” is presented by UTEP’s Center for
Inter-American and Border Studies, Paso al Norte Museum and the Hispanic
Heritage Committee.
A+ rider course
The A+ Rider Course is a basic motorcycle hands-on training course consisting
of 20 hours of classroom time. This course is free to all active duty
military and DOD civilians. The course is located at Cohen stadium,
9700 Gateway North Blvd. Classes are limited to 12 students, and those
interested should contact Ernie Bautista at 568-772/2510.
German Day of Mourning
The Commandant of the German Air Force Air Defense School will hold
a Commemora-tion Ceremony on the occasion of the German Day of National
Mourning. The ceremony will be held at the Fort Bliss National Cemetery,
Sunday at 10 a.m.
Unveiling ceremony
Veterans in Clint, Texas Thinking of and Remembering You, V.I.C.T.O.R.Y.
will hold a Veteran’s plaque unveiling ceremony Saturday, at 11
a.m. at San Lorenzo Church in Clint, Texas. Col. Harry D. Bloomer, Chief
of Staff, will be the guest speaker and all are invited to attend the
ceremony.
The plaque is a tribute to all Veterans from Clint, Texas who have served
in the U.S. Armed Forces. Names on this plaque include World War I,
World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm, Iraqi Freedom and all other
Veterans who have served honorably, and those who are still serving.
Veterans Day ceremony
El Paso Community College will have a Veterans Day Ceremony Thursday,
at 11 a.m. in the Valle Verde Campus Cafeteria at El Paso Community
College. Pizza and hot dogs will be available for lunch and entertainment
will be provided by the Moon Dogs Musical Group “Oldies but Goodies.”
Guest speakers include (Ret.) Command Sgt. Maj. Delcon Weston, (Ret.)
Admiral(ret.) Paul Arthur, and Dr. Joe Martinez, EPCC.
Hoop shoot
Youth Services will once again host the annual Elks Lodge National Free
Throw Contest. The contest will be held at 9 a.m., Dec. 4, at the YouthPlex
and is open to boys and girls ages 8-13. The winners in each age group
will advance to the next round in local competition to be held Dec.
18. The final will be held at a later date in Lubbock, Texas. For information

Night of magic
The Fort Bliss Officers’ Club will host a Membership Appreciation
Night and informal drive from 4:30-7 p.m. Nov. 19. The theme is “A
Night of Magic” and will feature James Szeles, a certified master
hypnotist and 15-year entertainer. The entire Officers’ Club facility
- the International Ballroom and dining area, the Down Under Bar and
the club’s main lounge - will be used for the night, each room
featuring a fully-stocked bar, food and music. Hors d’oeuvres
and free wine and beer tasting will be available. Many great door prizes
will be given away throughout the evening. Members are invited
to attend and partake of the delicious food, entertainment and door
prizes. Potential members are welcome. Membership is open to Fort Bliss
officers and civilian personnel GS-7 and NF-03 and above, and CSMs.

Thanksgiving feasts
Celebrate Thanksgiving early this year at one of MWR’s distinctive
holiday celebrations.
The Centennial Club will serve its traditional “Thanksgiving Brunch”
from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Nov. 21, featuring a delicious assortment
of breakfast items including crepes and omelets made to order. Highlighting
the lunch selections will be the Thanksgiving turkey and dressing, along
with other traditional Thanksgiving entrees. The Centennial’s
salad bar and dessert bar round out the temping array of brunch offerings.
Costs are $12.50 for adults, $6.25 for children 7 to 11 years and children

The Officers’ Club will host a “Thanks-giving Champagne
Brunch” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 21. The tantalizing brunch
offerings include turkey and dressing, and other traditional Thanksgiving
items. There will also be a delicious assortment of vegetables and side
dishes, salad bar and dessert cart. The cost is $12.95 per person, $6.50
for children ages 7 to 11 and free for children 6 years and under. Nonmembers

Army vs. Navy
Stop by the Down Under Bar at the Officers’ Club Dec. 4 and catch
the annual Army vs. Navy football match up. The pre-game festivities
begin at 10 a.m. MST, as the game will broadcast live from East Rutherford,
NJ. Enjoy the game in the sports bar ambiance of the Down Under, as
well as the club’s wide selection of domestic and imported bottled

Simple to sublime
The Fort Bliss Officers’ Club will host a holiday pastry class,
featuring The Greenery Pastry Chef, Jonathan Bowden. Bowden will instruct
a limited amount of people on how to make divine holiday pastries, such
as holiday Sugar Cookies, Chocolate Chipotle Bourbon Pecan Tart and
Buche de Noel (Yule Log). The class will be 2-5 p.m. Dec. 4. Officers’
Club Members pay only $5 and non-members pay $7. Register at the Officers’

Outdoor adventures
The Fort Bliss Outdoor Adventures is pleased to inform you of some of
its upcoming outdoor adventures.
Bosque Del Apache: Nov. 20; price is $12, which includes bus transportation,
lunch and admission to park.
Christmas on The Pecos River: Dec. 4; price is $15, which includes bus
transportation, snacks, beverages and ticket for the tour.
Dallas Cowboy game: Dec. 12-13; price is $190, which includes bus transportation,
game tickets, and hotel stay, tour of Texas Stadium and tailgate party.

Check control
Effective Thursday MWR Check control is moving from Army Community Services
(ACS), Bldg. 2494 to Directorate of Morale, Welfare and Recreation,
Bldg. 11, second floor. This is also the place for clearing the Officers’

Framing Bliss
Framing Bliss is having a November Sale. Buy one and get 25 percent
off the second framed and matted picture (of equal or lesser value)
on full custom frame jobs only. This offer is not valid with any other
sale or coupon. Framing Bliss will be closed Thanksgiving, Nov. 25,
but will be opened Nov. 26 for an open house Christmas Celebration from
8 a.m. to 6: 30 p.m. with door prizes starting at 9 a.m. then every
hour. Please note there will be no Do It Yourself Classes Nov. 26 or
27. Framing Bliss will be closed Monday and open Tuesday. Also, the

Soldier Show
Nominations for performer and technician positions in the 2005 Army
Soldier Show are being accepted for vocalists, dancers, musicians and
specialty acts, lighting, audio, video, costume and stage technicians.
Preference in selection is given to performers showing versatility in
musical style and experience. Preference is given to technicians having
experience and possessing a variety of skills. Technicians with past
leadership and building experience, and mechanical or electrical aptitude
will also be considered for positions such as stage manager, etc. Nominations

Karaoke nights
The Fort Bliss Bowling Center hosts karaoke nights for MWR patrons and
guests Thursday and Friday nights. Karaoke King takes to the stage beginning
at 7:30 p.m. and plays until 11 p.m. Thursdays and 12:30 a.m. Fridays
in the center’s lounge. As a reminder, all non-active duty military
guests, including family members and civilians, must be at least 21

Club on Biggs Airfield hosts karaoke nights for MWR patrons and guests
Friday nights from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with Linda’s Carraoke Karaoke

Down Under football
Catch NFL Sundays at the Down Under Sports Bar, located on the lower
level of the Officers’ Club. See the biggest selection of NFL
games - up to 14 regular-season games - available every Sunday beginning
at 11 a.m., featuring marquee match-ups and the best chance to follow
your favorite national football teams. The Down Under Sports Bar will
broadcast all your favorite gridiron matches, compliments of the club’s
digital satellite entertainment service, on any of the club’s
five television monitors. The bar opens at 11 a.m. offering an assortment
of domestic and imported bottled and draft beers. Commemorative pewter
steins are also available for purchase.

Rod and Gun Club
The Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club is located in Bldg. 3730 off Railroad
Drive and Deer on Roy Johnson Lane. The kitchen opens on Fridays from
10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The facility offers trap, skeet, rifle, pistol, archery,
black powder and plinking ranges, and a five-stand sporting clays range,
pro shop, snack bar (open weekends) and banquet facilities. Concealed
carry classes and instruction in shotgun, rifle and pistol reloading
are also available. The Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club is open to the public.

FBOC opens main bar
The Fort Bliss Officers’ Club Main Bar is open every Friday starting
at 4:30 p.m. Scheduled promotions are as follows: every 1st and 3rd
Friday the main bar will host Ladies Night with free snacks and great
music, while every 2nd and 4th Friday the club is Karaoke, which begins

Sunday brunches
The Fort Bliss Officers’ Club offers a Champagne Sunday Brunch
from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday except holiday weekends. The cost
is $9.95 for members and $11.95 for nonmembers, $6 for children ages
7 to 11 and free for children 6 and under. Reservations are recommended.

Domestic violence presentations
Domestic violence affects military readiness and families as well. It
is a fact that children who witness domestic violence at home can become
abusers themselves. Now is the time to schedule your unit’s annual
domestic violence prevention and awareness brief. Additionally, feel
free to schedule your FRG meeting on the issues and concerns of family
violence. To schedule your unit or FRG for a presentation contact Joe
Crawford with ACS at 568-4878.
PCS/ETS
PCSing to a new installation? The Army Community Service relocation
programs will provide you with automated welcome packets on any DoD
military installation worldwide while you wait. Assigned to an isolated
location far from an installation? Not a problem. Internet access will
provide localized information. How do you find that isolated location
within CONUS? Computerized route-maps will take you there. Soldiers
clearing the installation are advised that strip maps, showing the location
of all agencies that must be cleared, are available at the Army Community
Service relocation desk at Bldg. 2494, which is also a required stop
in the clearing process. Avoid becoming “geographically challenged”

MWR briefs
Fort Bliss MWR is available to make presentation briefs to Soldier units
- active and reserve - on MWR’s installation role, operating budget,

requirements.
Mickelsen Library
Mickelsen Library currently hosts “Read Me a Story” every
Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. for children 2 to 5 years of age in the children’s
room of the library. The library is also presenting “Family Story
Time” for 2 to 6 year olds, from 10:30 - 11am. Parents or guardians
must stay with their child through the duration of story-time, which
will last about 30 minutes. Each week will feature a new theme, and
story readings will include some movement, singing or crafts. Mickelsen
Library is located in the E wing, lower level of Hinman Hall, Bldg.
