Patriotic concert
The 62nd Army Band will perform a patriotic concert at the El Paso Scottish Rite.  The concert will be held Friday, at 7 p.m. in the El Paso Scottish Rite Auditorium.  This unique opportunity is open to the public.  While tickets are free, due to limited seating we are asking that you call the temple at 533-4409 in order to reserve your tickets. The temple is located downtown at 301 West Missouri, at the corner of Missouri and Santa Fe.

Christkindlmarket
A traditional German Christmas Fair will take place at the German Community Center on Robert E. Lee Road Dec. 5 at 11 a.m. with numerous vendors selling beautiful handmade products ranging from floral decorations, handmade greeting cards, quilts to woodcraft products. There will also be German Bratwurst, Beer and Glühwein sold next to German Coffee, cakes, pastries and cookies. Flu shots for veterans
The El Paso VA has received additional flu vaccine available for veterans 65 and older enrolled with the VA and veterans 65 and younger enrolled with chronic lung, heart, kidney, or blood disorders. Shots will be given from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Las Cruces VA outpatient Clinic at 1635 Don Roser, Las Cruces, N.M. and the El Paso VA at 5001 N. Piedras here in El Paso. No appointment is necessary.

Fraud hotline
The Fort Bliss CID has implemented a fraud and illegal drug hotline. It is designed to help you, the taxpayer, to report incidents of suspected fraud or any information involving illegal drug activity. If you suspect or know someone who either is committing, or has committed, any type of fraud against the U.S. government or is involved in any illegal drug activities in Fort Bliss or the surrounding area, report it by calling 569-4243. You do not have to leave your name - all information will remain confidential and anonymous. Please leave enough information so any follow-up investigation can be completed.

American idol wanted
Sergeants Major Course Class 55 is looking for Fort Bliss’ American Idol to appear at the USASMA Class 55 Talent Show. Auditions are scheduled for Jan. 28 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy. Holiday food giveaway

Christ Cathedral and Omega Vision will partner with Feed the Children to unload two trucks full of food to the El Paso community.  The food distribution will take place in the Christ Cathedral parking lot, 9615 Dyer Saturday, at 10 a.m.  Food vouchers are required and will be given out while supplies last during each nightly rally during the 3rd Annual Strengthening Youth and Family Conference. For information, contact the church office at 755-7744.

Nursing program graduation
A graduation ceremony will be held at 3 p.m., Dec. 3, in the William Beaumont Army Medical Center Chapel for students graduating from the United States Army Graduate Program in anesthesia nursing. 

Chapel renovation
The renovation work at Chapel 4, Bldg. 2498, has commenced and is scheduled to be completed Jan. 28. A modification to the contract is being worked with DOC to add another classroom, so the scheduled completion date will probably change to around March 15, 2005. The work was jointly funded by Fort Bliss and matching funds from the Department of Army's Chaplain's Office. A brief description of work includes:

• New mezzanine at the front entrance of the chapel.

• New carpet, tile, floors throughout the chapel.

• Pews will be refurbished and reused.

• All interior woodwork will be removed and replaced to match the existing woodwork.

• Wood casing around windows will be refurbished and varnished.

• All bathrooms will be renovated with new commodes, sinks, faucets, metal partitions, etc.,

• Existing ceiling will remain in chapel area. Other ceilings in the rest of building will be new gypsum board and textured. Existing interior wall will be textured and painted.

• New mechanical and electrical systems will be upgraded. Work includes an all new HVAC system and ducts. Work includes new light fixtures, outlets, switches, panel boxes, etc.,

• All interior and exterior doors will be removed and replaced.

• New kitchen cabinets and sink will be installed.

This project will result in an enhanced location for worship and religious education. The Fort Bliss Chaplain's office has additional projects planned for this and other chapels as funds become available.

New gym flooring
Two MWR Physical Fitness Centers will be receiving new Mondo flooring systems in each facility’s weight rooms. Work on Stout Gym’s selectorized room, cardio loft, free weight room, leg room, and dumb bell room, as well as Logan Gym’s weight room has begun. Rooms will be closed one at a time to accommodate guest usage. A schedule of projected date closures per room will be posted at each facility. Simple to sublime
The Fort Bliss Officers’ Club will host a holiday pastry class, featuring The Greenery Pastry Chef, Jonathan Bowden.  Bowden will instruct a limited amount of people on how to make divine holiday pastries, such as Holiday Sugar Cookies, Chocolate Chipotle Bourbon Pecan Tart and Buche de Noel (Yule Log).  The class will be 2-5 p.m. Dec. 4.  Officers’ Club members pay only $5 and non-members pay $7.

Wellness center opens
Beginning today, Fort Bliss community members now have another fitness alternative to the main gyms. MWR is opening a Civilian Wellness Center in Bldg. 251 on Club Road, just beside the Fort Bliss Officers’ Club. The site will also host the Civilian Fitness Program’s Manager’s Office. Hours of operation are Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., closed for lunch from 1-2 p.m. The facility features circuit training equipment, cardio, light dumbbells, and Thera Bands. Walk-in vaccine clinics
To increase accessibility for our clients, the Fort Bliss Vet Clinic is offering a new service — walk-in vaccine clinics Wednesday. Now you don’t need an appointment to get vaccinations, microchips, heartworm testing or deworming for your pet. The new service has started and will be open 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. and 1 to 3:30 p.m. Services will be on a first-come/first-served basis. Please note that the walk-in service is for wellness care only — owners still need to make an appointment to get their animal seen for something other than vaccines, microchips, deworming, or heartworm or feline leukemia testing. The Vet Clinic is located at Bldg. 6077 on Carter Road between Van Horne Housing area and the Bowling Alley.

Thanksgiving dinners
Celebrate Thanksgiving early this year at one of MWR’s distinctive holiday celebrations. The Centennial Club will serve its traditional “Thanksgiving Brunch” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 21, featuring a delicious assortment of breakfast items including crepes and omelets made to order.  Highlighting the lunch selections will be the Thanksgiving turkey and dressing, along with other traditional Thanksgiving entrees. The Centennial’s salad bar and dessert bar round out the temping array of brunch offerings.  Costs are $9.95 for members, $11.95 for nonmembers and $6.50 for children 7 to 11 years and children 6 and under are free.  Reservations are required.  Please call 568-9330, 562-5969 or 562-7934. The Officers’ Club will host a “Thanksgiving Champagne Brunch” from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Nov. 21.  The tantalizing brunch offerings include turkey and dressing, and other traditional Thanksgiving items.  There will also be a delicious assortment of vegetables and side dishes, salad bar and dessert cart.  The cost is $11.95 per person, $6 for children ages 7 to 11 and free for children 6 years and under.  Nonmembers pay an additional 20 percent surcharge. Army vs. Navy game
Stop by the Down Under Bar at the Officers’ Club Dec. 4 and catch the annual Army vs. Navy football match up. The pre-game festivities begin at 10 a.m. MST, as the game will broadcast live from East Rutherford, NJ. Enjoy the game in the sports bar ambiance of the Down Under, as well as the club’s wide selection of domestic and imported bottled and draft beers. For more information, call 568-7013.

Central registration office moved
Central Registration and FCC has moved to the ITR Bldg. 1743 on Victory Ave.  Hours of operation for Central Registration are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Hours of FCC are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.  Outdoor Adventures hours of operation is 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The Fort Bliss Information, Ticketing and Registration Office is open from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, closing for lunch from 1 to 2 p.m., and closed Saturday and Sunday.

Down Under football
Catch NFL Sundays at the Down Under Sports Bar, located on the lower level of the Officers’ Club. See the biggest selection of NFL games - up to 14 regular-season games - available every Sunday beginning at 11 a.m., featuring marquee match-ups and the best chance to follow your favorite national football teams. Night of magic
The Fort Bliss Officers’ Club will host a membership appreciation night and informal drive from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Friday. The theme is “A Night of Magic” and will feature James Szeles, a certified master hypnotist and 15 year entertainer. Members are invited to attend and partake of the delicious food, entertainment and door prizes. Potential members are welcome. Membership is open to Fort Bliss officers and civilian personnel GS-7 and NF-03 and above, and CSMs. An Officers’ Club membership entitles you to various benefits. Environmental forum
The next Environmental Forum will be today at 10 a.m. at the Fort Bliss Museum and Study Center, Bldg. 1735, Auditorium. Agenda: 1) recycling, 2) substitution of hazardous materials, 3) use of alternative fuels, 4) scrap metal, and 5) ECO responsibilities for re-deploying units. Everyone interested in environmental issues is welcome. The forum is of particular interest to environmental compliance officers, hazardous waste generators, vehicle maintenance and other motor pool personnel, paint booth operators, fuel handlers, pesticide applicators and water systems operators. Native American heritage
Fort Bliss Soldiers will conduct a Native American Heritage Month Observance today, from 1:30-2:30 p.m. in Soldier Hall, Bldg. 2. This ceremony will honor the contributions Native Americans have made to the nation’s history.
This year’s theme is “Honoring Life, Honoring Elders, Honoring Heritage.” Anyone who would like to participate is encouraged to contact Master Sgt. Thompson at 568-1998.
This event is free and open to the Fort Bliss and El Paso communities.

Thanksgiving food baskets
The Northeast Christian Academy Christian Honor Society is sponsoring their annual Thanksgiving Food Basket Drive now through Nov. 19. Their goal is to provide a food basket for 25-plus families. Upward Basketball league

Sun Valley Baptist Church is starting its Upward Basketball leagues Nov. 30. Upward Basketball promotes character and self-esteem in every child by providing: equal playing time for every player, one-hour practice and one game each week of the season and much more. Adopt a Soldier
Due to the overwhelming outreach of the El Paso Community, all Soldiers have been adopted for this Thanksgiving season. Families interested in adopting Soldiers can still call 568-4256 to be placed on a stand-by list, and those families will also be the first to receive Soldiers next Thanksgiving. When you call, we will need your name, telephone number, and the number of soldiers you are willing to host in your home.

A+ rider course
The A+ Rider Course is a basic motorcycle hands-on training course consisting of 20 hours of classroom time. This course is free to all active duty military and DOD civilians. The course is located at Cohen stadium, 9700 Gateway North Blvd. Classes are limited to 12 students, and those interested should contact Ernie Bautista at 568-772/2510.

Soldier Show
Nominations for performer and technician positions in the 2005 Army Soldier Show are being accepted for vocalists, dancers, musicians and specialty acts, lighting, audio, video, costume and stage technicians. Preference in selection is given to performers showing versatility in musical style and experience. Preference is given to technicians having experience and possessing a variety of skills. Technicians with past leadership and building experience, and mechanical or electrical aptitude will also be considered for positions such as stage manager, etc. Nominations should reach NLT Nov. 30. Domestic violence presentations
Domestic violence affects military readiness and families as well. It is a fact that children who witness domestic violence at home can become abusers themselves. Now is the time to schedule your unit’s annual domestic violence prevention and awareness brief. Additionally, feel free to schedule your FRG meeting on the issues and concerns of family violence. Civilian leave donor program

USASMA helps needy
United States Army Sergeants Major Academy Class 55 will accept $1,000 and clothing from El Paso Helping Hands at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy at Biggs Army Airfield.
The money will be used to assist 14 special needs orphans who recently lost their home and all their belongings to flooding Sept. 25 and 26.
Class 55 is spearheading the on-going assistance effort. The Life Hope Children’s Home is a non profit organization that receives no funding and relies on donations.
Local businesses and organizations along with the United States Army Sergeants Major Class 55 have donated time, skills, supplies to update and expand a 3-bedroom farmhouse with a barn situated on three acres of land. The property was was recently donated by an unnamed local businessman.
