Fort Bliss
Commissary under new direction
The Fort Bliss Commissary is on the verge of change and Donald Fleck, the new commissary store director, is leading it. “I plan to change the attitude of the customers and employees for the better in order to improve customer service here at the commissary,” says Fleck. Donald Fleck began his commissary experience in 1980 as a complex in the Air Force at McCord Air Force Base, Wash. Since then he has worked at commissaries across the country to include some work overseas. He arrived at Fort Bliss, Texas, in October after serving 2 1/2 years as the store director of the Air Force Base Commissary in Rapid City, S.D. Fleck plans to keep the commissary fully stocked with top quality merchandise and to improve customer service. He also plans to improve the quality of life for employees within the commissary and he wants to reach out to customers. “I want to keep customers informed of the commissary benefit to keep them coming back so that the commissary will remain to be a benefit to the community,” says Fleck. Fleck has asked for a major reconstruction plan for the commissary in order to provide better service to the community. This plan would include replacement of display cases, better lighting, new floors and doors, as well as a new up-to-date checkout system. And, rotisserie chicken will be available after the first of the year. Fleck also said, “The commissary will continue to provide 30 percent savings on all products which will provide for improvement of quality of life for the Soldiers and their families.” Fleck says he enjoys coming to work and seeing what the store is like in the morning versus in the evening and being able to evaluate whether or not the commissary has serviced the customer to the best of its ability. “I just really want to improve the service for the community,” says Fleck.
