A crowd of 51,288,
the biggest ever for the Sun Bowl, enjoyed a day of warmer weather and
great football as the Arizona State Sun Devils edged the Prude Boilermakers
27-23.
Tradition was kept as Fort Bliss took part in the day’s festivities.
Fort Bliss provided the Color Guard for the day’s event as the
Fort Bliss Bagpipers played.
Maj. Gen. Michael A. Vane, Fort Bliss commanding general, provided the
coin for the coin toss at the start of the game.
The U.S. Army Golden Knight parachute team jumped in, delivering the
game ball after landing in the center of the stadium. Two members wore
jerseys to represent each team and carried those teams corresponding
state flag as they flew on to the field.
Arizona State and Purdue donated a combined total of approximately 3,000
tickets to be given to Soldiers and their family members.
Fort Bliss Soldiers volunteered to help with a wide variety of jobs,
from car parkers to vendor sales. The Soldiers earned a portion of the
proceeds from sales at the game for their unit funds.
