Imperial Soldiers
put confidence to the test
Sgt. 1st Class Colin Greene keeps his head low while crawling through the barbed wire obstacle.
Spc. Barbara Haskins pauses before taking on the second obstacle.. Soldiers with Headquarters, Headquarters Battery, 11th Air Defense Artillery were treated to morning physical training at the Air Assault obstacle course Friday. Sgt. 1st Class Andrew T. Brosowsky, an air assault rappel master, took the Soldiers of HHB, 11th ADA through a demonstration of each obstacle. “We’ll tell you if you don’t negotiate the obstacle to standard. We’ll put you through it again and again ‘til you get it right or we get sick of watching you try,” Brosowsky said. Two of the obstacles are mandatory in order to be a “go” during actual Air Assault Training: one is the confidence climb up a specially-designed ladder; the other combines rope climbing, a balanced walk, a confidence climb and descending a cargo net, nicknamed, “the tough one.” HHB’s Sgt. 1st Class Robert Braun and Sgt. 1st Class Coretta Nolen, both former drill sergeants, were on hand to act as safeties for the obstacle course. “My wife made fun of me because I complained about being sore all weekend, and finding bruises here and there,” said Capt. Matthew Bachman, who wears an air assault tab. “It brought back some memories. It [wore me out], but it was a lot of fun,” Bachman added. “These obstacles really test your confidence, along with your upper body strength and endurance. You really have to practice doing these a few times before you ever feel comfortable at each obstacle,” said 1st Sgt. Felton Williams. “With that in mind, I’d like to see the battery do this about once a month,” Williams added.
