Survive,
fight and win skills
Col. James J. Leech, commander, William Beaumont Army Medical Center, announced two new initiatives with the focus of improving access to primary care services. The first initiative is the formation of a new department, the Department of Family and Community Medicine. Lt. Col. John H. Garr, a board certified emergency medicine physician, will be chief. This department will include Emergency Medicine Service, the Pediatrics Clinic, the Soldier Family Medical Clinic and the Prime Adult Medicine Clinic. “We are aware of the need for additional primary care appointments. By consolidating these clinics, I believe we’ll be more responsive to the needs of our beneficiaries and the Fort Bliss Community,” Leech said. Second, WBAMC will create an Internal Medicine Service within the Department of Medicine. “This service is dedicated to the care of our many beneficiaries who have multiple, significant medical issues,” he explained. “These patients often require more physician time and attention.” Five board certified internal medicine physicians will be the physician staff and Maj. Edward H. McDaniel will be chief of the service. “These changes will be seamless and most patients will not notice these changes. In some instances, your primary care provider may be changed. However, your provider will not be changed without your approval,” said Leech. “We look forward to serving you and providing the very best in healthcare.”
