family connection
The Patriot Family Connection gives family members and friends of deployed
servicemembers a chance to record their greetings, words of support
and thanks free of charge. Messages can be recorded 24 hours a
day and are forwarded to American Forces Radio, which is heard in Iraq,

Teen job fair
MWR will sponsor the fourth annual Summer youth job fair to be held
Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Centennial Club on Biggs Field.
Agencies from Fort Bliss and the El Paso community will be on site offering
a variety of jobs for the summer. Some of the positions that will be
available include lifeguards, recreation aids, clerks, laborers and

FBFCU annivarsary

Material status system training

ID card section hours
Effective today, the ID card section will be open on the first and third
Saturday of each month from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. until further notice.
Additionally, the section will stay open until 7 p.m. Thursday. There
are projections for a heavy mobilization and demobilization workload
and want to mitigate the impact of this on our regular customers. For

62nd Army band concert
The 62nd Army Band will present a concert with the 36th Army Band from
Fort Huachuca, Ariz., April 10 at 3 p.m. at Magoffin Auditorium located
on the UTEP campus. Admission is free and open to the public. The concert
will feature various concert band arrangements, featuring such well-known
musicals as West Side Story and The Producers, as well as patriotic

The U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy will host a prayer breakfast at

CAPM walks
The Fort Bliss Family Advocacy Program, in conjunction with Youth Services,
will conduct a one-mile Child Abuse Prevention Month Walk April 9 from
11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kelley Park. Free food and beverages will be provided
immediately following the walk, and the first 300 participants to register
will receive a T-shirt. In addition, face painting, a jumping balloon,
a clown and other activities will be provided for children to enjoy. For

Fraud hotline
The Fort Bliss Criminal Investigation Department has implemented a fraud
and illegal drug hotline. It is designed to help report incidents of
suspected fraud or any information involving illegal drug activity.
If you suspect or know someone who either is committing, or has committed,
any type of fraud against the U.S. government or is involved in any
illegal drug activities in the Fort Bliss or surrounding area, report
it by calling 569-4243. You do not have to leave your name – all
information will remain confidential and anonymous. Please leave enough
information so any follow-up investigation can be completed.
Free flowers
The annual spring cleanup for Fort Bliss will take place April 24 to
30. To assist family housing residents in making their community more
enjoyable, the Fort Bliss Directorate of Public Works and Logistics
will offer vouchers for the purchase of outdoor plants or flowers for
government housing residents. This program will run from April 9 April

Trinity Site open house
White Sands Missile Range will open Trinity Site to the public for an
open house Saturday. Trinity Site is where the world’s first atomic
bomb was tested July 16, 1945 at 5:29:45 a.m. Mountain War Time. The
open house is free, and visitors can take a quarter-mile walk to ground
zero where a small obelisk marks the exact spot where the bomb was exploded.
Historical photos are mounted on the fence surrounding the area. For

Blacksmithing at Old Fort Bliss

San Jacinto Day celebration
The Daughters of the Republic of Texas, El Paso Rio Grande Chapter,
will meet April 8 at 11:30 a.m. at Griggs Restaurant to celebrate San
Jacinto Day, April 21. Winners of the Texas History Essay Contest will
read their winning essays. The contestants are in the 4th and 7th grades.

YISD band concert
Ysleta Independent School District will showcase the most outstanding
elementary school band musicians under the direction of guest conductor,
Lorraine Kubala Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at the Ysleta ISD Central Office.
The concert will pay homage to local heroes and the U.S. Armed Forces
through the patriotic music and a special recognition by the students.

Swim classes
Due to the high demand of swim classes SKIESUnlimited has created a
Friday swim class. This swim class will be Friday and May 20. Times
will be 9 to 9:45 a.m. for Child Care Center Only; 9:45 to 10:30 a.m.
for Child Care Center; 10:30 to 11:15 parents only; 4:30 to 5:15 p.m.
for SAS and Youth Center and the 5:15 to 6 p.m. for SAS and Youth Center.

Free practice testing
The U.S. Army General Library Program offers free practice tests for
a wide variety of college, graduate school, and qualification exams
at the online U.S. Army Library Education Resource Center, developed,
designed, and hosted by Thomson Peterson’s. Available at base
libraries all over the world through a customized Web site, www.petersons.com/army.
the center also offers information on colleges, graduate school programs,
and scholarships, in addition to test preparation. Service personnel
will find online practice tests for the SAT and ACT college admission
tests, 10 subject tests for the CLEP exam program for earning early
college credit, the GRE graduate school admission test, and the ASVAB,
which is familiar to many as the exam used to admit enlistees and place
them in the appropriate job. There are three separate full-length practice
exams for each available test. Dates include May 7 and June 4. To get
access, service personnel and their families should see the post librarian
and ask for an activation key code. Test takers are prompted to type
in the activation key code when registering for a practice test. Or,
they can call 877-433-8277 to speak with a Thomson Peterson’s
technical support representative. Access to the tests is free, unlimited,
and available 24/7. The Army Library Education Resource Center also
includes downloadable test-preparation handbooks for the DANTES Subject
Standardized Test and the various aptitude tests to qualify as a military
pilot, including the Army Flight Aptitude Selection Test. The DSST is
a series of more than 30 exams in subjects such as business administration
and personal finance.
Powerlifting
Richard Kahle a three time NASA Powerlifting and Bench Press Champion,
will be at Fort Bliss Saturday at 10 a.m. This is your opportunity
to learn the training principles and techniques that Kahle employs straight
from the champ himself. These principles have resulted in more than
50 powerlifting records, 15 national championships, and the 2004 AAU
World Championships. There will also be a demonstration of real
drug free power with a lifting exhibition including an 800 pound squat.
Immediately following the Powerlifting Seminar will be an Olympic Weightlifting
Demonstration of the Snatch and the Clean & Jerk.
Outdoor Adventures program
The Fort Bliss Outdoor Adventures is offering the upcoming adventures;
Ruidoso day: April 9, price is $10 per person or $50 with two hour horseback
riding, which includes transportation to and from Ruidoso, be sure to
bring a camera and good pair of walking shoes or hiking boots.
Franklin Mountains hiking trip: April 16, price is $12 per person, which
includes transportation to Franklin Mountains, Ranger-guided Aztec Ruins

SAT prep class
SKIESUnlimited is offering a SAT and ACT preparation class April 16

Family housing name signs
All government housing occupants will display rank and name in the sign
board provided at their quarters. Letters for signboards are available
at the Self-Help Center. Occupants must keep sign boards and letters

This collection includes national titles like The New York Times, Washington
Post, and many others; as well as many smaller local and regional titles
across the U.S. — keeping all army personnel up-to-date on issues
and events from their state and city. Both collections are easy to use,
and searching can be conducted across all titles, a few titles, one

Centennial Club now have free wireless internet, so while having your

Dance classes for kids
SKIESUnlimited introduces dance class by Ubaldo Amenta. All classes
will be at the Fort Bliss Teen Center and may be prepared in conjunction
with the SKIES Dance and Gymnastic program.
There will be an informational meeting March 30, from 5 to 6 p.m. at
the Teen Center Bldg 635.
Rhythm and Dance 1: for 3-5 year olds Wednesday and Friday from 3 to
3:30 p.m. and from 3:30 to 4 p.m. Cost for classes is $35 per month.
This class will combine gross motor skills such as skipping, jumping,
gallops and other moves to music. Emphasis will be placed on teaching
the enjoyment of movement, listening to music, learning to count beats
and musical expression. One recital per year will be presented to showcase
student’s progress.
Rhythms and Dances 2: for elementary school-age children Wednesday and
Friday from 4 to 4:30 p.m. and 4:30 to 5 p.m. Cost is $35 per month.
This class will help advance learning dances such as basic hip-hop and
jazz, country line dances and creative movement in preparation for more
advanced classes.One recital per year will be presented to showcase
student’s progress.
Latin/Country/Swing/Jazz and Hip Hop: for middle and high school Wednesday
and Friday from 5 to 6 p.m. Cost for classes is $50 per month. Classes
are 45 minutes each and will take place at Bldg. 635. Special choreography
will also be developed for performance for those students interested
in participating. One recital per year will be presented to showcases
student’s progress.
SKIESUunlimited introduces ballet classes. All classes will be at the
Teen Center. There will be an informational meeting March 30, from 5

Pre-ballet for 3-5 year olds Wednesday and Friday from 3 to 3:30 p.m.
and 3:30 to 4 p.m. Cost is $35 per month. One recital per year will

from 4 to 4:30 p.m. Cost is $35 per month.

syllabus that will focus on developing a ballet technique. One recital

Wednesday and Friday from 5:15 to 6 p.m. Cost is $50 per month. These
sessions are designed for those students with some ballet experience
who wish to further training. The course will follow a structured syllabus

Civilian fitness program
The Civilian Fitness Zone is accepting applications for the fourth civilian
physical training program. Civilians who take part in this program will
be allowed three hours of administrative leave per week for a total
of six months to participate. As part of the program, participants will
have health education classes and activity classes, including weight
training, aerobics, jogging and swimming. Stop by the Civilian Fitness
Zone, Bldg. 251 to pick up an application and health history packet.
The packets are due back by April 29 at 4 p.m. Assessments will be conducted
May 16 at 8 a.m. at the Civilian Fitness Zone and the program starts
on day of assessment. First-come first-served, maximum 20.

Habitat for Humanity
Teens, ages 14 and up that are interested in joining Habitat for Humanity,
will meet June 20-23 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Teens will earn a certificate
from the Habitat for Humanity indicating 32 hours of community service.
In addition, teens will earn a leadership/citizenship certificate from
SKIESUnlimited.
An orientation and a safety class are mandatory and will be provided
by the Habitat for Humanity prior to working on worksite. Safety tools
and lunch will be provided by the Habitat for Humanity.

Swim classes
SKIESUnlimited is offering swim lessons March 28 through April 20. For
ages 3-5, lessons will be 9 to 11:15 a.m., and for ages 5 and up, lessons
will be 4:30 to 5:15 p.m. and 5:15 to 6 p.m. Spaces are limited and
cost is $24 for eight lessons.
If your child attends the Logan Center or the Main Center full time,
staff will provide transportation. You can register your child at any

NAF auction
Looking for those special items to personalize your apartment, home
or barracks? Check out this year’s public combined Non-appropriated
Fund Auction, April 16, 9 a.m., in Bldg. 643 on Taylor Road, between
Pleasanton Road and Holbrook Road. A variety of furniture and equipment
will be available. All items will be displayed April 14 and 15 for a
preview from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in Bldg. 643. To bid, you must sign up
during the preview or on the day of the auction. Visa, Master Card,
cash and checks will be accepted (subject to approval). Payment must
be made day of the auction, and all sales are final. Refreshments will

Post-wide yard sale
Fort Bliss hosts the annual post-wide yard sale from 7 a.m. to 1 p.m.
April 30, in all housing units on main post, Biggs, Beaumont, Logan
Heights, Hayes and 801 Housing (off Martin Luther King Blvd.). Those
who want to participate in the yard sale may simply display their items
during the designated times; no formal permission is required. This
event is open to the surrounding communities. All guests entering Fort
Bliss property will be required to have a valid driver’s license,
proof of insurance, and valid car registration and safety inspection
sticker; and will be subject to vehicle search. Please note that military
police will not allow yard sale shoppers in the housing areas prior
to 7 a.m. All Fort Bliss residents are encouraged to participate. For

Breast stroke clinic
Replica will hold a “Freestyle Stroke Clinic” from 8 a.m.
to noon April 23. The session includes lecture/video, drills, technique,
workouts, and stroke evaluation. Bring a new VHS tape or your tape from
the freestyle clinic. The fee for the clinic is $20 and will be limited

Library story time
Mickelsen Community Library hosts “Read Me a Story” every
Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. for children 2 to 5-years-old in the Children’s
Room of the library. The library also hosts “Family Story Time”
for 2- to 6-year-olds at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Each session lasts 30
minutes to one hour, and parents or guardians must stay with their child

Lock and Leave
Lock and Leave Storage invites all military personnel, their dependents,
retirees and other individuals with military ID cards to store their
personal goods with us. Moving frequently with PCSs and TDYs, a person
can accumulate a lot of stuff. Lock and Leave, your official on-post
storage center, offers specials such as Welcome, Buddy and Frequent

Lifeguard training
MWR is in the process of selecting qualified individuals to fill lifeguard
position at the Community Pool and Replica Aquatic Center for the summer.
Applicants must be a minimum of 16 years of age and have successfully
completed the American Red Cross Lifeguard Training, Cardio Pulmonary
Resuscitation for the Professional Rescuer and First Aid Course. Individuals
needing to complete the training must first contact the American Red
Cross at 592-0208. There is a fee for the course. Session schedule is
for April 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The third session
is for April 3, 10, 17 and 24 from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. The fourth training
is for May 1, 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. The fifth session
is for May 7, 14, 21and 28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. For information, call

Burger and a movie
Join MWR for burgers and a classic movie night 6 p.m., April 22 at the
Fort Bliss Officers’ Club. The cost is $7.95 for members and $8.95
for non-members (children 4-11 are $4). MWR provides buffet style
burgers to let you build your own any way you’d like and show
one of the most popular and best classic detective mysteries ever made,
The Maltese Falcon. Burgers and a classic movie night is a great
way for all ages to enjoy a unique burger and embrace the 40’s
movie genre.
Unit funds
Fort Bliss Units that are deployed overseas (except Kuwait and Qatar),
in support of Homeland Security, are entitled to receive additional

CDS Saturday openings
The Child Development Center provides special hours of operation Saturday
at its main location in Bldg. 1730 on Haan Rd. Hours are 1 p.m. to 12
a.m. Cost for payday weekend care is $3.50 per hour; $3.00 for Tier
I. Children, ages 2 months to 12 years, are eligible for the care. Parents
need to call 568-5689 to make a reservation.
Karaoke nights
The Fort Bliss Bowling Center hosts karaoke nights for MWR patrons and
guests Thursday and Friday nights. Karaoke King takes to the stage beginning
at 7:30 p.m. and plays until 11 p.m. Thursday and 12:30 a.m. Friday
in the center’s lounge. As a reminder, all non-active duty military
guests, including family members and civilians, must be at least 21

Club on Biggs Airfield hosts karaoke nights for MWR patrons and guests
Friday nights from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with Linda’s Carraoke Karaoke

Kids on the Block
The Kids on the Block Puppet shows are available for performances free
of charge. The performances cover a variety of topics such as bicycle
safety, school safety, vehicle safety, child abuse, bullying, and deployments.
Shows can be performed for schools, FRG events/meetings, youth groups,

Volunteers needed
Army Community Service Financial Readiness Program is in need of a volunteer
to manage our Coupon Social. This person will be responsible for organizing
the coupon box (sorting by product type and separating expired coupons),
hosting a monthly meeting and searching for coupons, deals and freebees
on the internet and in the stores. One of the best benefits of this
position is that you can take advantage of all the savings. Contact

Toddler and infant playgroups
The Family Assistance Center conducts toddler and infant playgroups
Tuesday’s and Thursday’s of each month. The toddler playgroup
ranges from ages 18 1/2 months -3 years of age at the Logan Child Development
Center from 10 a.m. to noon. The infant playgroup is offered at the
Youthplex every Thursday from 10 to 11 a.m. This is an excellent way
to interact with your children and meet other parents within the community.

Free Spanish classes
Army Community Service offers conversational Spanish classes Friday
from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. in the conference room. Participants should
call 568-1132 or 569-7762 to register for the class. Free childcare
is provided for participants. Children must be registered at the Child
Development Center and participants must book their own childcare reservations
by calling 568-1132. Classes are for ID cardholders age 18 and older.
Rod and Gun Club
The Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club is located in Bldg. 3730 off Railroad
Drive and Deer on Roy Johnson Lane. The kitchen opens Friday from 10
a.m. to 2 p.m. The facility offers trap, skeet, rifle, pistol, archery,
black powder, and plinking ranges, and a five stand sporting clays range,
pro shop, snack bar (open weekends) and banquet facilities. Concealed
carry classes and instruction in shotgun, rifle, and pistol reloading
are also available. The Fort Bliss Rod and Gun Club is open to the public.

Domestic violence briefings
Domestic violence affects military readiness and families as well. It
is a fact that children who witness domestic violence at home can become
abusers themselves. Now is the time to schedule your unit’s annual
domestic violence prevention and awareness brief. Additionally, feel
free to schedule your FRG on the issues and concerns of family violence.

PCS/ETS
PCSing to a new installation? The Army Community Service relocation
program will provide you with automated welcome packets on any DoD military
installation worldwide while you wait. Assigned to an isolated location
far from an installation? Not a problem. Internet access will provide
localized information. How do you find that isolated location within
CONUS? Computerized route-maps will take you there. Soldiers clearing
the installation are advised that strip maps, showing the location of
all agencies that must be cleared, are available at the Army Community
Service relocation desk at Bldg. 2494, which is also a required stop
in the clearing process. Avoid becoming “geographically challenged”

MWR briefings
Fort Bliss MWR is available to make presentation briefs to Soldier units
- active and reserve - on MWR’s installation role, operating budget,

Sunday brunches
The Fort Bliss Officers’ Club offers a Champagne Sunday Brunch
from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Sunday except holiday weekends. The cost
is $9.95 for members and $11.95 for nonmembers, $6 for children ages
7 to 11 and free for children 6 and under. Reservations are recommended.

English as a second language
Army Community Service offers English as a second language class Monday
and Wednesday. Classes are from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Participants should
