Capt. Lynn M. Speier earns 50 points for her team in the push-up event portion of the challenge.

The 11th Air Defense Artillery Brigade officers conducted Officer’s Physical Training April 21 at Finney Field.
The event was held to build the leadership team not only as their respective battalions and batteries, but also as a brigade.

“The main purpose of getting all of our officers together is to help build a brigade team of leadership that knows each other and is able to work together as team members, regardless of which battalion, battery or platoon they belong to,” said Col. Randy A. Buhidar, 11th ADA Bde. commander.

The quarterly event provides the officers an opportunity to work with other individuals they may not interact with every day but also allowing an opportunity for competition between the battalions.

“To get everybody together by ‘mixing them up,’ we get to see everybody that we would not normally see on a daily basis,” said Capt. Veronica Chinn, who organized the event. Chinn is the 11th ADA Bde. chemicals officer.

“To get the officers to get to know one another that the battalions love to compete, it will still allow them to compete this way even while mixing them up,” added Chinn.

Each officer was assigned one of 15 teams that had a team evaluator and team leader.

Officers sprint to the finish line at Finney Field after successfully completing all stations.

After the teams were designated, they started at their first scheduled station. There were eight stations, one of each was located at 1st Bn., 44th Air Missile Defense Headquarters, 3rd Bn., 43rd ADA HQ, 5th Bn., 52nd ADA HQ, Stout Track, the Bowling Center parking lot, 11th ADA HQ and HQ Btry. and the 31st Brigade’s 1st Bn., 1st ADA HQ, where pull-ups were required.

The fellow officers motivated each other and accomplished the tasks as a team.

“Teams that were out there had everybody working together and accomplished whatever obstacle or objective that they had,” said 1st Lt. Korey Cyprian, 11th Bde. HQ Btry. executive officer. “Everybody was pushing each other along and we all displayed esprit de corps.”

As with the quarterly physical fitness events, teambuilding improves because of the organized and demanding training.

“What I see gaining from all of this is camaraderie, a cohesion and great esprit de corps as our officers come together once a quarter and train in what is a rigorous and challenging physical fitness event while at the same time having a lot of fun,” said Buhidar. “We will do this every quarter and the events will change and we’ll continue to build our team through challenging and rigorous physical fitness.”
