The 11th Air Defense Artillery Headquarters Battery and 286th Signal Company conducted driver’s training May 9 through 13 at the 11th Bde. motor pool and various sites at Tobin Wells.

The training provided to Soldiers were methods of safe driving, how to perform maintenance on vehicles, learning to complete the proper paperwork when dispatching a vehicle and completing paperwork to receive maintenance on their vehicles.

After the classroom portion of the class was complete, Soldiers went to the motor pool to perform the preventive maintenance checks on vehicles. The Soldiers worked together under guidance from Staff Sgt. Genaro Villanueva, HHB 11th Bde. motor sergeant and Sgt. Francis Dunbar, 286th Signal Co. motor sergeant.
After the Soldiers properly accomplished the maintenance tasks, they started the behind-the-wheel block of instruction. The students drove the five-ton truck and Humvee at Tobin Wells during the day. In the evening, the students also learned how to drive in blackout conditions using night vision technologies.

Spc. Joseph Peters, Spc. William Cox and Spc. Quentin Hunter ensure all gauges in the Humvee are properly operating.

On the last day of class, Soldiers were required to pass a written exam to successfully complete the course and receive their military driver’s license.

As the students finished the program, Villanueva reinforced to the Soldiers what was taught to them throughout the class.

“I want all of you to drive defensively and safely on the road,” said Villanueva. “You not only have to be cautious of what kind of load you are carrying but, also for your passenger’s safety.”
