Off Duty
Pool Maintenance
The Replica Aquatic Center is currently undergoing repair of a gas line.
The pool is operational; however, it is without hot water for showers
and heating of the pool through Sunday. Hot water is expected to be
restored Monday. Pool management regrets any inconvenience for the situation

Bliss Catholic studies
Catholic Religious Formation classes are being offered to the Fort.Bliss

Military dedication
The Apollo Heights Choir will present a one hour musical dedication
to our military forces, fire fighters, veterans, medical personnel,
rapid responders and the police force Sept. 11, at 10:15 a.m., at Apollo

PWOC
Protestant Women of the Chapel would like to invite you to attend our
Fall Kick-Off Aug. 31 at 9:30 a.m. We will meet at the Religious Activities
Center, Bldg. 449 at the corner of Pershing and Merritt Road. Come join
us for a “rockin” good time as we kick-off our upcoming
year in PWOC as “Workers Together for Christ” with a 50’s
theme. We meet weekly to have Bible study, fellowship, prayer, praise
and worship (not to mention snacks.). We will be offering many Bible
study opportunities. This is a great way to make new friends in the
community and grow in your spiritual walk. We have Free Childcare on
the premises, as well as a home school room for older children. We are

Army Career Day
The United States Army Sergeants Major Academy will host a free Army
Career Day, Sept. 10, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is your opportunity
to get all the information you need to know about Army training opportunities,
jobs, pay and much more. And it’s free. Come to the Sergeants
Major Academy and find out more about ROTC Cadet Command, the United
States Military Academy at West Point and the career opportunities that
await you. See demonstrations by military police and air defense artillery

Health care forum
The August Health Care Forum is 9 to 11 a.m. Aug. 25 in the Army Community
Service, Bldg. 2450. Topics include TRICARE, children’s issues,
and El Paso Critters and Creepy Crawlies. All are invited to attend.
Law school applications
The Office of The Judge Advocate General is now accepting applications
for the Army’s Funded Legal Education Program. Under this program,
the Army projects sending up to 15 active duty commissioned officers
to law school at government expense if funding permits. Selected officers
will attend law school beginning the fall of 2006 and will remain on
active duty while attending law school.
Interested officers should review Chapter 14, AR 27-1 (The Judge Advocate
General’s Funded Legal Education Program) to determine their eligibility.
This program is open to commissioned officers in the rank of second
lieutenant through captain. Applicants must have at least two but not
more than six years of total active Federal service at the time legal
training begins. Eligibility is governed by statute (10 U.S.C. 2004)
and is non-waivable.
Eligible officers interested in applying should immediately register
for the fall offering of the Law School Admission Test. Applicants must
send their request through command channels, to include the officer’s
branch manager at AHRC, with a copy furnished to the Office of The Judge
Advocate General, Attn: DAJA-PT (Yvonne Caron), 1777 North Kent
Street, Rosslyn, VA 22209-2194, to be received before Nov.1. Submission
of the application well in advance of the deadline is advised.

Motorcycle training
Fort Bliss has experienced two fatal motorcycle accidents this fiscal
year. The accident investigations revealed both riders were experienced
NCOs who recently transitioned to higher class motorcycles. Following
the May accident, Maj. Gen. Vane directed implementation of motorcycle
certification training for all motorcycle riders on post. The current
commanding general directed continuation of this initiative. The training
is mandatory for all military personnel (assigned or attached to Fort
Bliss) who operate motorcycles.
Based on the commanding general’s guidance from the last readiness
review, motorcycle registration for Soldiers is mandatory. All Soldiers,
NCOs, officers and civilians who operate a motorcycle must attend the
motorcycle certification course. Contact James Hill, at 568-7772 to

New sick call procedures
The El Paso Veterans Affairs Health Care System have made the following
changes: Walk-in sick call is now sick call by appointment; patients
call the telephone linked care at 569-6158, listen to the menu options,
and choose the option to speak to a registered nurse. The TLC phone
line is available from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The patient will receive
advice for self-care, instructions to go to the emergency department,
or call 911, and, if needed, receive a same day sick call appointment.
62nd Army band concert
The 62nd Army Band is planning a concert for the month of October and
invites all active duty military, family members, or DoD civilians that

Information exchange
Information Exchange, an hour-long monthly meeting designed to keep
Soldiers, family members, retirees and civilians informed about upcoming
post events, activities and programs, is held the last Monday of every
month at 9 a.m. at the Fort Bliss Officers’ Club Ballroom. The
agenda features speakers from Tricare, the NCO Wives Club, AAFES, ASYMCA,
MWR, and more. The next gathering will be held Aug. 29. Meeting notes

Travel advisory
Airlines are recommending passengers get to the airport an hour and
a half before departure. The early arrival time expedites the screening
process conducted by the Transportation Security Administration. Early

Excalibur Steppers
The Excalibur Steppers are looking for new members. Ages five to fifteen
are invited to come out and join. Practices are Monday through Friday.
The Tuesday and Thursday practices are at Stout Gym from 7:30 to 9 p.m.
The Monday, Wednesday and Friday practices are held at a private residence
in northeast El Paso at 7 p.m. To become an Excalibur Stepper, students

CERT training schedule
The El Paso Police Department is offering free Community Emergency Response
Training through December at the Police Academy, 2300 Scenic Drive.
The courses will be held Tuesday through Thursday from 5:30 to 9:30
p.m., and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. as follows: Aug. 20, Sept.
13 through 15, Sept. 17,Oct. 11 through 13, Oct. 15, Nov. 15 through
17, Nov. 19, and Dec. 6 through 8 and Dec. 10. For information contact

Toys for Tots
The 4th annual Toys for Tots Golf Tournament will be Aug. 25 at the
Lone Star Golf Club. Registration begins at 7:30 a.m., with a 9 a.m.
shotgun start. It is a four-person scramble: $260 per team or $65 per
person, plus a new unwrapped toy (worth at least $5). Fee includes green
fee, cart, lunch, and goodie bags. Prizes will be awarded for the longest
drive, the straightest drive and specialty holes. All proceeds go towards
buying toys for underprivileged children in the El Paso area. For information,

Animal ownership
The Onate Trail Dog Fanciers Association will join with the American
Kennel Club and other AKC affiliated clubs nationwide Sept. 17 celebrating
Responsible Dog Ownership Day. The club and their dogs will be at Carmike
Cinemas to discuss and promote how to provide good pet care and their
requirements. Information on the different types of dog breeds will
be available and the public is invited to “Meet the Breed”;
meeting the club’s dogs up close to find out what breed might
be a good pet for their family. Also available will be information and
handouts about the various dog activities and sports in El Paso and
the area. Training information will also be available. The Canine Good

Hope Chapel services
After a few more moments of flexibility and graciousness, the Chapel
4 renovations will be complete soon. Our apologies go out to anyone

American Red Cross
Volunteer Orientations are held every Friday from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at
the Fort Bliss Red Cross office, Bldg. 45, Slater Road. Volunteers are
needed to assist with clerical support, health and safety training and

Women’s Equality Day
Fort Bliss will conduct a Women’s Equality Day Observance Aug.
25 at 1:30 p.m. at Soldier Hall. This ceremony is in honor of the contributions
women have made to our nation. This event is free and open to the Fort
Bliss and El Paso communities. This year’s theme is “Celebrating
Women’s Right to Vote.” Anyone who would like to participate

Soccer program
Team Bliss Varsity Soccer Program is looking for players who are interested
in league play and possible tournament action. The team practices Monday,
Wednesday, and Friday from 6 to 7 a.m. at the fields just inside the
Cassidy Gate. Anyone interested can show up at the practice fields during

Texas Salsa Festival
The El Paso Empowerment Zone will have a Salsa Dance Competition at
the Texas Salsa Festival Sept. 4. The contest will have a youth, amateur,
and professional salsa dance competition categories judged by the El
Paso Ballroom Dance Academy, New Horizon Dance Academy, Lupe Duran,
Shundo, along with the World Salsa and Mambo Champions Carolina and
Felipe Telona, who will perform in a dance showcase.
The youth competition begins at 5:30 p.m. Sunday for ages 17 and younger.
The amateur competition for dancers ages 18 and above will begin at
7 p.m., followed by the professional competition for ages 18 and above
starting at 8:30 p.m. Prizes for competition winners include trophies
for first, second, and third place. In addition, there a month-long
scholarship to one of the area dance schools in partnership with the
Texas Salsa Festival will be awarded. Deadline for application submittal
is Aug. 26 and day-of entries will be on a cash basis only.

Youth dance teams
The El Paso Empowerment Zone will host the Texas Salsa Festival Sept.
4. EPEZ is looking for local youth dance teams to perform to Latin Jazz
and Salsa music at the festival. Participants will perform on the Youth
Stage, along with the Fanta Girls and Regaton band Big Family. For information

Fiesta de las Flores
The League of United Latin American Citizens will host its annual Fiesta
De Las Flores on Labor Day weekend, Sept. 2 through 5, at the El Paso
County Coliseum. Sept. 5 is Military Appreciation Day, free admission
for all active military, family members, National Guard, Reserve and
retired military. Fiesta de las Flores include daily entertainment,
a carnival, food, game booths and much more. The Fort Bliss military
police will provide a K-9 Team demonstration and an MP patrol car with

American Legion Post 58
The American Legion Post 58 and the American Legion Riders are sponsoring
a biker party Aug. 27. Admission is free and there will be a DJ, full
bar, dance floor and a motorcycle rodeo. A bike show and slow drag races
are just two of many events. Trophies will be awarded to event winners.
There will be door prizes and drawings throughout the evening. The American
Legion is located at 4724 Vulcan St. Bike registration begins at 5:30
p.m., and the party begins at 6 p.m. This event is to raise money for
veterans in need and their families within the area. For information

Fort Bliss Historical Association
The Fort Bliss Historical Association will hold their next monthly meeting

Laffs for Literacy
To raise money for local libraries, People Skills, in partnership with
the El Paso area libraries consortium, and the El Paso Sports Commission,
is producing Laffs 4 Literacy Saturday at the El Paso County Coliseum
at 8 p.m. This event will feature some of the finest comedians. Tickets

Oktoberfest 2005
The German Air Force Defense Center will host Oktoberfest 2005 Sept.
16 through Sept.18. The event is scheduled to begin at 7 p.m. Friday
and Saturday and will include a beer stein, a Bavarian dinner and a
raffle ticket, featuring the Bavarian Brass Band from Holledau. Sunday,
the event begins at noon. Doors will open one hour prior to the start
of the event each day. Admission for Friday and Saturday is $25, and

Civilian fitness program
Applications for the next civilian physical training program are now
being accepted. Civilians who take part in this program will be
allowed three hours of administrative leave per week for a total of
six months to participate. The program includes a pre and post fitness
assessment, health education classes, and activity classes, including
weight training and aerobics, and supervised exercise instruction from
12:30 to 2:30 p.m., Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Stop by Stout Physical

Outdoor Adventures
MWR Outdoor Adventures has the following trips planned: Dripping Springs

Hispanic Heritage celebration
Sept. 16 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., the Centennial, Officers’ Club,
and Golden Tee will commemorate Hispanic Heritage with an all-you-care-to-eat
Mexican lunch buffet. Celebrate Hispanic culture with authentic Mexican
food. Choose from an array of tacos, burritos, flautas, enchiladas,
steaming hot refried beans, fresh salsa and crisp tortilla chips. The
buffet at the O’ Club is $5.25 for members and $6.25 for non-members,

Italian night
Sept. 23, is Italian Night at the Fort Bliss Officers’ Club. From
6 to 9 p.m., the O’ Club will feature an all-you-care-to-eat Italian
buffet including a variety of pastas, sauces, meatballs, lasagna, salad
bar, assorted desserts and beverages. Italian Night is open to the Fort
Bliss community. Members pay $9.95, non-members pay $11.95 and children

Kids-n-Company
Mickelsen Community Library is proud to host the Kids-n-Co Story Troupe
once again during Family Story Time Saturday at 10:30 a.m. The Kids-n-Co
Story Troupe is one of the outreach components of El Paso Kids-n-Co.
The group of young actors tells stories to encourage literacy, plant
the seeds of imagination, and introduce children to the wonder of books. A
cross-section of literature is used that includes cultural awareness,
humor, and drama. The program is appropriate for children ages 3 to
12.
Men’s bowling league
Aug. 23 there will be an organization meeting, at present, we have 20
teams that have shown interest in the only men’s league at Fort
Bliss Bowling Center. We have room to expand to 32 teams. Interested
teams or individuals can sign up for this league at the Fort Bliss Bowling

Seniors bowling league
Friday there will be an organization meeting for the Friday Seniors
Handicap Bowling League. To bowl in this league you have to be a senior
50 years young or older. At present we have 18 teams and we have room
for 24 teams. Interested teams or individuals can sign up for this league
at the Fort Bliss Bowling Center or call John Spates at 751-6197 or
the bowling center 568-6272.
Bowling leagues
Several Fort Bliss Bowling Leagues are signing up new members. Aug.
31 rhe Golden Age Senior Mixed Bowling League will sign up participants.
You must be 50 years and or older to participate, to sign up call 751-1340.
Sept. 6: Ladies Tuesday Evening Bowling League, females of all ages
are eligible, four to a team, to sign up call 751-1340.
The Bowling Center also hosts the Las Vegas Bowling League Thursday

CDS special openings
Fort Bliss Child and Youth Services are available for childcare during
your unit’s special events for a minimum of 20 reservations. Payment
must be made in advance. Contact Elizabeth Bernal at Central Enrollment
and Registration, 569-5040.
CYS payment fee
Fees for CDS and SAS regularly scheduled full-time or part-day programs
are due on the first of the month. For your convenience, parents may
choose to pay the full fee on the first of the month or to pay half
on the first and the other half on the 15th of the month. Fees not paid
within three days after the 1st and/or 15th will incur a late fee. Once
the fees are 15 days past due, the Soldier’s commander will be
notified. At 20 days past due, CYS must terminate services. At
30 days past due, CYS will contact DMWR Financial Management Division
to initiate DD 139 (Pay Adjustment Authorization) action and the delinquent
sum will be deducted from the Soldier’s paycheck. Any time fees
are owed in any program, the family can not enroll the child in another

Team Bliss Judo
All Soldiers interested in being a member of the Team Bliss Judo Team
are invited to start attending practices held in the Combative Training
Room in Bldg. 60. Experience is preferred but not required. Practices
are held: Monday, Wednesday, Friday at 5:30 to 7:30 a.m., and Tuesday

Family care plan policies
Family care plans are required for all single and dual military parents
to ensure the safety and well being of your child. Two copies of
this plan will be maintained, one at central enrollment and one copy
in the child’s file in the primary child care setting. Parents
will provide updated information to CER annually or more frequently
if necessary to update information. This information allows us to ensure
the care of your child in your absence. Parents are given 30 days from
the date of registration to provide CER with a copy of completed FCP,
DA 5305-R. If DA 5305-R is not received within those 30 days, services
will be terminated until such time as the DA 5305-R is provided. For

Parenting classes
Parenting is a challenge, and most parents share the same goal, “to
raise a confident, respectful, self-reliant, responsible, cooperative
child”, according to the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting
of Children under Six. Free Parenting Classes are available at the Army
Community Service Center, Bldg. 2494 on Ricker Rd. The classes teach
parents how to understand behavior, building your child’s self-esteem,
listening and talking to them, helping them learn to cooperate, disciplining
and their social and emotional development. Parenting styles will also
be discussed. The class is based on the book The Systematic Training
for Effective Parenting by Don Dinkmeyer Sr., Gary D. Mckay, James S.
Dinkmeyer, Don Dinkmeyer, Jr. and Joyce L. Mckay.
NFL football Sundays
Beginning Sept. 11, the Down Under Sports Bar at the Officer’s
Club and the Metro Station at the Centennial will offer NFL Sunday Ticket
every Sunday. Both clubs will open at 11 a.m. and offer multiple broadcasted
games daily. Free snacks will be available and patrons may choose their
favorite bottle or draft beer - both import and domestic. The Officer’s
Club will also feature Sunday Brunch before the game. For information

German American Night Run
The 12th Annual FirstLight Federal Credit Union German-American Oktoberfest
Night Run is set for 6 p.m. Sept. 10 at Kelly Park. The event is open
to all community members. Participants may sign up for either the 8K
Run (5 miles) or the 5K Fun Walk (3.1 miles). Entry fees are $15 in
advance and $20 the day of race. Military unit teams may run in the
military competition, with the top five individual finishing times going
toward their team’s overall time. Teams may include up to ten
individuals, and the entry fee is $120 per military unit team. First
through third place teams receive cash awards to their unit funds. Information
sheets, with registration forms, are available at Stout Fitness Center,
Fort Bliss ITR, most El Paso sport stores, and YMCA and YWCA locations.

Early registrants may mail their registration form and check, made payable

begin at 4 p.m. and will include Oktoberfest music and a variety of

and other refreshments. Proceeds from the race will benefit MWR and
the German Air Force charity organizations “Helping Hands”

YS teen council
Fort Bliss Youth Services is establishing a new Teen Council. This group
will be actively involved with the planning and the development
of activities offered at Fort Bliss Youth Services, to include organizing
teen programs such as fieldtrips, dances, community outreach, and youth
sponsorship. Youth between 13 to 18 years of age who want to make a
difference within their community are needed. For information, contact

Welcome nights at O’Club
Are you new to post? We’ve got you covered. Fort Bliss Officers’
Club has Welcome nights every Friday at 4:30 p.m., and Champagne Sunday
Brunch every week beginning at 10 a.m. Fort Bliss Bowling Center has
$1 games and free snacks every Thursday through August. During August
bowl three games, get one free; free game with purchase of snack bar
special; and $1 games Monday and Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
Centennial Banquet and Conference Center: Pub Welcome Nights every Friday
at 4:30 p.m.; Specialty night buffets every Tuesday at 6 p.m.; and party

Dive In
Join MWR Saturday for a wet and wild time at the Community Pool’s
“Dive In!” Join us for fun and food as we play great movies
at the pool. Parents and kids can arrive at the starlit cinema at 7
p.m. or patrons can come early in the day and stay until night. The
free movie starts at 8:30 p.m. Because this is a special event, no outside
food or beverages are allowed; however, patrons may purchase snacks

Toddler playgroups
The Army Community Services Center’s Toddler Playgroup’s
location has been permanently changed to the Fort Bliss Bowling Center

Bench press competition
Fort Bliss MWR Sports will host an Amateur Athletic Union Bench Press
Competition on Saturday, Sept. 24 at Stout Gym. This is a military Bench
Press National Championship and is open to all branches of the service.
Weigh-ins begin at 8 a.m.; competition at 10 a.m. Cost for participating
for males and females is $30, which includes the entry fee, a t-shirt
and competition medial for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place finishes. AAU Powerlifting

be postmarked no later than Sept. 3 and should be sent certified mail

Veterinary services
The Vet Clinic offers Walk-In Wellness clinics (vaccines, microchips,
de-worming, heartworm and feline leukemia tests) every Tuesday, Wednesday,
and Thursday from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 1 to 3:30 p.m. If you pet
needs to be seen for something other than vaccines, we offer sick call

of Heartguard medications and flea and tick preventatives are Monday

The Officers’ Club hosts karaoke in the Pershing Pub every Friday
“Elvis” Rob Langford sets up at 5:30 and plays until 11
p.m., providing MWR patrons with one of the largest selections of karaoke

Center hosts karaoke nights for MWR patrons and guests Thursday and

PCSing to a new installation? The Army Community Service relocation
programs will provide you with automated welcome packets on any DoD
military installation worldwide while you wait. Internet access will
provide localized information. How do you find that isolated location
within CONUS? Computerized route-maps will take you there. Soldiers
clearing the installation are advised that strip maps, showing the location
of all agencies that must be cleared, are available at the Army Community
Service relocation desk at Bldg. 2494, which is also a required stop
in the clearing process. Avoid becoming “geographically challenged”

Thursday bowling league
You are invited to the Thursday Nite Las Vegas Mixed Bowling League.
Competition will begin on Sept. 8. The league meeting, and advanced

Las Vegas is a multiple skill level league that includes beginners to
professional bowlers competing on 5-person teams. Certified bowling

Main Street Espresso

Community Pool hours
With the start of the school year, the Community Pool has adjusted its
daily hours of operation. The pool is now open Saturday and Sunday
only from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Admission is $1 for adults, 75 cents for
children 6-12 years of age, and free for children five years and under.
Guests are $2 per person. Officers’ Club members swim free
by showing their membership cards.

Spinning program
Are you ready to burn some calories and ride your way to fitness. Bikes
are in and classes will begin after Labor Day; schedules available at
Stout Gym by Aug. 22. Burning approximately 900 calories in a one-hour
class, this is one of the most intense workouts available. The class
consists of loud, base-thumping music and energetic instructors leading
a group of cyclists on an extreme, sweat-filled ride to fitness. For

World War II 60th anniversary
Commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II, 25 singers
will present “I’ve Heard That Song Before,” a sentimental
journey through the best-loved songs of the early 1940s. About 50 songs
will be performed in an informal garden party atmosphere, complete with
light refreshments, free of charge. A color guard is expected to honor
veterans. The performance will take place Sept. 18 at 3 p.m. at Memorial

Northeast Teen NETWORK
Join the Northeast Teen N.E.T.W.O.R.K. in celebration of National Fun
Month. The 4th annual Family Fun Day will be held Saturday from 4 to
8 p.m. at Skyline Optimist Youth Park 5050 Yvette. The purpose of this
event is to show the community that the youth of today have the knowledge
and commitment to make a difference in the lives in the northeast area.
There is a $5 entrance fee for anyone over the age of four-years-old.

St. Frances Xavier Cabrini Catholic Church presents the 7th Annual International
Festival Internacional Sept. 9 through 11. Friday the hours for the

Membership opportunities
The Fort Bliss Tennis Club and Fitness Zone, Bldg. 262, on Club Rd,
now offers free membership and new hours in order to better serve our
Soldiers and their families. The new hours are Monday-Friday, 6 a.m.
to 7:30 p.m.; Saturday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The facility, aimed at Soldiers, family members, retirees, and
civilians, offers a five-court tennis club and fitness area with a 20-piece
circuit training room. The facility also has two practice courts. A
contracted tennis pro offers lessons for an additional fee. The workout
area is equipped with hydraulic weight machines, cardio equipment and
a “Romper Area” for small children to play under their parent’s
supervision while working out. The Fitness Zone is designed to be similar
to the “Curves” concept utilizing hydraulic machines for
a full-body workout with the soreness associated with weight training.
Certified instructors are on staff to facilitate the proper usage of
the equipment. The Civilian Wellness Program utilizes the Fitness
Zone in the accomplishment of health and fitness related conditioning

AUSA awards banquet
AUSA will host its 26th annual General of the Army Omar N. Bradley Memorial
Leadership Awards Banquet at the Centennial Club Sept. 8. Cocktail hour
will be from 6 to 7 p.m. and the dinner and program will be held from
7 to 9 p.m. Dress for the military is dress blues and class A with white
shirt and bow tie. Dress for civilians will be business suits for men
and cocktail dresses for women. The costs for tickets are $15 per person
for military and DA Civilians. A limited number of $5 tickets are available

Fort Bliss Biggest Loser 2
Stout Physical Fitness Center is announcing the Fort Bliss Biggest Loser
Challenge 2. The challenge will take place from Sept. 10
through Dec. 10, and the cost will be $300. Class is limited to
25 people. In order to participate the contestant has to complete a
health history form and turn in a physicians clearance form. There will
be a fitness assessment during the first session and last session. The
contestants will work out in a group setting with trainers three times
a week for three months, have a personalized workout program, given
the book “Sixteen Weeks to Weight Training Success,”
with nutritional software, unlimited use of aerobic classes (card-eliminate)
for the entire program, and weekly fitness and nutritional newsletters.
Before and after pictures will be taken and posted at Stout Physical
Fitness Center. Weigh-ins will take place end of every week; and body
fat will be tested the end of every (the-eliminate) month. The
contestant with the highest weight lost to initial body weight will
be awarded “Fort Bliss Biggest Loser”. Applications are

Biggs Water Park
Biggs Water Park, Fort Bliss’ unique, outdoor water playground
located at Biggs Army Airfield, will close for the season Sept. 5. Park
hour’s are from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday, Wednesday through Saturday
and noon to 6 p.m. Sunday. The park is closed Tuesday. Biggs Water Park
boasts two slides, a mushroom waterfall and a large patio area with
umbrellas and lounge chairs. The wading pool features a variety of colorful
animal statues, slides and sprinklers for the enjoyment of all its young
patrons. Cost for use of the park is $1 per child and 50 cents for each

Nov. 19 San Antonio Lighthouse and the San Antonio Delta Gamma Alumnae
Chapter presents Heirloom Appraisal Day. Bring your prized heirloom
to the Airport Convention Center at 8505 Broadway in San Antonio, Texas,
and get a verbal appraisal for $10. Event is similar to the “Antique
Road Show” shown on PBS. Participants can purchase tickets by

Leadership El Paso is currently accepting nominations for Class XXVIII.

School supplies neeeded
The Rescue Mission and Salvation Army Homeless Shelters need your assistance
in donating school supplies to 53 school age children. These children
are getting ready to start school and they do not have any school supplies.
The most needed item are backpacks, combination locks for lockers, and
any clothing or shoes are appreciated. We ask if you or the organization
you represent are able and willing to make a contribution of school

Chili Pepper Challenge 2005
The El Paso Bicycle Club will host a bicycle ride on Sunday Sept. 25.
Rides start at the Rio Grande Valley Ranch Highway 259 and Straham Canutillo,
Texas. There will be three different bicycle rides. Century will be
100 miles with a start time of 6:45 a.m., the metric century will be
62 miles with a start time 7:30 a.m., 34 miles and 10 mile family fun
rides with a start time of 8:30 a.m. Registration is $15, t-shirts are
$10, and socks are $7. Day before registration is at Hello Pizza 1071
Country Club Road from 5 to 8 p.m. All riders must wear a helmet and
sign a release form before participating in the event. Children 16 and
