The 3rd Battalion, 43rd Air Defense Artillery presented more than 40 awards Friday to Soldiers recognized for their outstanding efforts. Col. Randy Buhidar, 11th ADA brigade commander, began the awards presentation addressing the Soldiers of 3-43.

“Every one of you did more than I have a right to expect during the September MRE.”

Buhidar spoke on how well the battalion performed during the Mission Rehearsal Exercise and the training conducted prior to the Mission Readiness Exercise.

“The bottom line is I’m proud of each and every one of you. You are a trained and ready battalion,” Buhidar said.

Maj. Paul Nichols, 3-43 ADA Bn. operations officer, was presented the Army Commendation Medal by Buhidar for his efforts in developing the Korea Theater of Operation pre-deployment training plan and execution of the MRE.

The formation was then turned back over to 3-43 ADA Commander Lt. Col. Brian Dunn, who presented the remaining awards. Dunn’s first order of business was the recognition of members of 5th Bn., 52nd ADA for their support during the 3-43 Bn. Gunnery Exercise held in August.

“These Soldiers supported you [3-43] by giving up their time and energy to make sure 3-43 was trained and ready to go and they did it because they are great professionals, great Soldiers, and great Americans. They helped you get where you are today,” Dunn said during the ceremony.

The 10 5-52 ADA Soldiers received a Certificate of Appreciation, a battalion coin and a very grateful “thank you” for their efforts.

The next presentation was to 23 Soldiers who received Army Achievement Medals for meritorious achievement during the September MRE. The Soldiers were presented medals for going above and beyond what was expected of them and being integral parts in the unit’s success.

Four noncommissioned officers were the next awardees. These NCOs were the retention NCOs for their respective batteries. They were presented a Certificate of Achievement for achieving the third quarter Fiscal Year 2005 Retention Goal.

Headqu
arters Battery and C Btry. also received awards for retention. Each of the batteries was presented a plaque for meeting or surpassing their unit’s retention goal.

The last award presented was the Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal given to Sgt. Jeffery Wright.
“Sgt. Wright has dedicated a lot of time within the city of El Paso to the evacuees of Hurricane Katrina, and when he was stationed in Germany he gave his time to high school students,” said Battalion Command Sgt. Maj. Tedd Pritchard.

Dunn made some closing remarks before the end of the formation.

On the future rotation to the Republic of Korea for the 3-43 firing batteries, Dunn had this to say:
“The greatest moment in my career in the United States Army is getting to lead you [3-43], but my saddest moment will be to watch you leave.”
