The “Ready and Vigilant” Brigade held an informational briefing
at Milam Gym March 28, informing Soldiers about the brigade’s
move to Fort Hood, Texas.
Directed by 31st Air Defense Artillery Brigade’s command and staff,
the briefing provided Soldiers involved in the move with information
on the processes and procedures for their move to join 4-5 ADA at the
central Texas post.
The move to Fort Hood involves the relocation of four air defense batteries
from here.
Units involved in the move are C Battery, 1-7 and 2-43 from 108th ADA
Bde. Also moving is B Btry., and 1-1 ADA; and E Btry., 3-2 ADA from
31st ADA Bde.
Also, a supplementary headquarters, headquarters battery and maintenance
battery will accompany the four departing batteries, stated Command
Sgt. Maj. Bryan McGhee, 31st ADA Bde.’s command sergeant major.
On arrival at Fort Hood, the six batteries will comprise the 4-5 Air
and Missile Defense composite battalion.
The briefing also provided a timeline of dates and deadlines for completion
of required training and tasks that need to be fulfilled before the
unit’s relocation.
Appropriate Fort Bliss agencies such as Youth Services, Army Community
Service, GMH housing, transportation, and other pertinent agencies,
informed outgoing Soldiers of the requirement for outprocessing. Reassignment
agencies informed Soldiers how to ensure their records are up to date
before moving to prevent any issues with family relocation.
Other agencies such as transportation educated Soldiers about services
available in regard to moving personal equipment.
The briefing also welcomed 4-5 ADA Bde. Commander Lt. Col. Reginald
Davis and Command Sgt. Maj. Charles William, who elaborated on the partnership
and benefits of the two combining brigades.
“The combining of the two units will make a unique partnership.
This will make ADA history,” said Davis.
Davis and Williams also elaborated on the benefits of moving and living
at Fort Hood, which is home to 77,000 Soldiers.
The Army post is within driving distance of Dallas, Fort Worth, Austin
and San Antonio. Fort Hood’s motto of “treating Soldiers
right,” shows glimpses of what is ahead for Fort Bliss’
departing units.
The move is scheduled to take place in June and August.
