The 108th Air Defense Artillery Brigade entrusted the responsibilities of the brigade’s highest ranking enlisted Soldier to Command Sgt. Maj. Richard Clem at a ceremony held last week at the Fort Bliss Air Defense Artillery Museum.

Clem assumed the position of 108th ADA Bde. command sergeant major from Command Sgt. Maj. Phillip Rowland. In early September, Rowland assumed the command sergeant major position of 94th Army Air and Missile Defense Command at Fort Shafter, Hawaii.

After the passing of the sword of the noncommissioned to Clem, Col. Jeffery Underhill, 108th ADA Bde. commander, welcomed Clem and his wife, Trisha, to the brigade.

“I’m honored to have Command Sgt. Maj. Clem join the 108th ADA Bde. team,” said Underhill. “He’s the very best command sergeant major and warrior for this brigade.” He added Clem has a “work ethic based on the bedrock of the Army values.”

Prior to joining the 108th ADA Bde., Clem had served in numerous leadership positions to include: team chief, squad leader, platoon sergeant, battalion operation sergeant, first sergeant, battalion operations sergeant major, division operations sergeant major, battalion command sergeant major and most recently he served as the battalion commander of the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy. He has also served as a drill sergeant.

“It’s indeed a great honor to serve for, and with, the Soldiers of the 108th ADA Brigade,” said Clem.
He also thanked the command sergeant majors who served in the position of 108th ADA Bde. command sergeant major before him and said he has the simple expectation to “see and expect disciplined Soldiers.”
During his Army career, Clem has claimed many honors, which include many Soldier and NCO of the Year awards as well as winning the 1996 and 1997 Fort Bliss Drill Sergeant of the Year Award. He was also inducted into the Sergeant Audie Murphy Club in 1997.

Clem holds a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science Degree in Information Technology and a Master of Business Administration in Human Resource Management.

He and his wife have three children.
