Troop Talk
I was fortunate to be present when Brig. Gen. John E.
Seward turned over command of the 94th Army Air and Missile Defense
Command to Brig. Gen. Robert F. Mathews, both formerly stationed here.
It was an historic day in Hawaii – and as beautiful as you would
expect. Lt. Gen. John M. Brown, III, USARPAC commander, presided at
the ceremony and raved about the impact of the 94th AAMDC throughout
the theater ove the past two years.
Another highlight of my visit was talking to Soldiers and families,
and running with the troops. As always, Soldiers have questions about
career progression and what change they can expect with the coming transformation.
Will 14Es and 14Js receive an Additional Skill Identifier for
Command and Control and Battle Management Communications training?
Currently there’s no Training and Doctrine Command approved Program
of Instruction for C2BMC. Therefore, there is no ASI awarded. We are
currently involved in a TRADOC validation review of all current and
proposed Army and Air Defense Artillery-specific ASIs. We are investigating
the feasibility of awarding a Project Development Skill Identifier,
which helps track Soldiers who’ve received mission-required specialized
training.
Will 14Es and 14Js trained on C2BMC stay in the C2BMC career
field, or return to other positions in line units?
Repetitive assignments will be good based on needs of the Army, but
career opportunities are limited. Soldiers are assigned based on Military
Occupational Specialty, not ASI or PDSI, therefore you could move from
a C2BMC assignment into another, or back to an MOS-specific assignment.
If C2BMC training is conducted at the ADA schoolhouse, will
the personnel who currently operate C2BMC get the opportunity to teach?
It’s unlikely we will train C2BMC in the ADA schoolhouse anytime
soon. The small population of Soldiers requiring C2BMC training is handled
through Assignment Oriented Training.
I will soon be catching up with my local PT runs and will be able to
again address some of your immediate concerns. Thanks, as always, for
your input. If there are other issues or questions you would like me
to address, e-mail them to jean.offutt@bliss.army.mil.
