More than 4,000 lined Noel Field to pay tribute to Maj. Gen. Robert P. Lennox, Fort Bliss commanding general, as he relinquished post command during a ceremony Wednesday.

“It is an honor to be here … it is my privilege to recognize Bob Lennox for his exceptional leadership and exemplary service to this community, the U.S. Army and our nation,” said Gen. William Wallace, U.S. Army Training and Doctrine commanding general. “This command and this community have grown in prominence and priority to become one of the Army’s most coveted assignments. I know this is a bittersweet day for you after all you have accomplished here. I know it is hard for you to leave.”

Wallace said the community was very fortunate to have had “Bob and Jenny” Lennox as leaders for the past two years. He said that as command teams go, there are few that can compare to them. As commanding general, Lennox consistently provided insightful guidance, inspirational leadership and a clear vision for the future of Fort Bliss, he said, and flawlessly enabled the installation to meet the challenges of Army transformation here while simultaneously supporting the Global War On Terrorism.
