4x4 Trail Run
There will be a 4x4 weekend trail run (easy to moderate) Saturday at the Doña Ana trail, located five miles north of Las Cruces, N.M. The route consists of several trails that loop around and interconnect. They range in elevation from 4,100 to 4,800 feet, with trails leading around the foothills of the Doña Ana Mountains. Gate closure
The main access road from U.S. Hwy 54 to McGregor Base Camp and the surrounding ranges will be closed at the railroad crossing today for maintenance. Traffic will be detoured through Alvarado Crossing (turn east at approximately mile marker 10 on U.S. Hwy 54), then south (an immediate right turn) on Sanitary Landfill Road for about four miles until reaching the access road just east of the railroad crossing. Warrant officer briefing
A Warrant Officer Recruiting Team from Headquarters, U.S. Army Recruiting Command, Fort Knox, Ky., will brief on the qualifications and application procedures for all Soldiers interested in becoming a warrant officer in any career field. The briefing is for Soldiers considering applying as a warrant officer in any military occupational specialty. Family Child Care classes
The Family Child Care program will be conducting a weeklong training for military spouses who want to provide child care in their home. Applicants must be 21 years of age and have a high school diploma or equivalent. This applies to families living on post and families who live off post, as the FCC program has homes off post. The training will be conducted 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 28 to Feb. 1. Classes include USDA food program, child growth and development, business practices, food handlers, fire, safety, health, child abuse prevention and others. MOAA scholarships
The El Paso Chapter, Military Officers Association of America, announces the MOAA 2008-2009 scholarship, grant and interest-free loan programs. Eligibility requirements for scholarships and grants are at www.moaa.org/education. Interest-free loans are available for students younger than 24 who are children of MOAA members (former active, retired and Reserve or National Guard officers), and children of active-duty, Reserve, National Guard or retired enlisted military personnel. Best Sapper Competition
The fourth annual Best Sapper Competition, sponsored by the U.S. Army Engineer School’s Sapper Leader Course, will be held May 6 through 8 at Fort Leonard Wood, Mo. Registration for the competition is under way and is open to all Soldiers serving in the 21-series career field. The competition, organized in two-man buddy teams, is designed to test the knowledge, physical ability and mental strength of engineer Soldiers throughout the regiment. For 52 hours, teams will compete in several grueling events, which involve demolitions, mountaineering, U.S. and threat weapons and land navigation. Military and non-military awards, along with bragging rights, will be given to the top three teams. Lifeguard training
This training teaches lifeguard candidates the skills and knowledge needed to prevent and respond to aquatic emergencies as a professional lifeguard. Certification includes CPR/AED for the professional rescuer, lifeguard training and first aid. Optional training is available for bloodborne pathogens, oxygen administration and as a shallow water guard. Participants must be at least 15 years old and must demonstrate specific swimming and strength capabilities. The next class runs March 24 through 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost is $125, paid to the Red Cross, and an additional $40 pool fee. Special Forces PT
Soldiers in the rank of staff sergeant and below are invited to participate in the Special Forces Physical Training Program. SFPT consists of runs, ruck-marches and upper-body conditioning. The Monitor Online now hosts a photo gallery for the Fort Bliss community to upload photos and create online photo albums. Go to The Monitor Online at www.fbmonitor.com and on the right panel, click on Your Photos.
1. Click on the @ symbol then click on Register.
You must first register for an account and you will then be notified by e-mail once your account has been activated. During the registration process you will need to read and agree to the terms and conditions of use.
2. Photos to be uploaded must be no larger than 1024 kB. If your photos are too large, you may use any photo editor to re-size them.
3. Log in to the Fort Bliss Photo Gallery

5. Click on Upload File
6. Click on Browse... and select the picture .jpg file from your hard drive
7. Click on Continue

Hometown news release
Fort Bliss personnel looking for a convenient way to submit hometown news releases can now click on the link located on the Fort Bliss Web site, https://www.bliss.army.mil. Fill in pertinent information, select “submit” and then click “go.” An option for attaching photos or supporting documents is also provided. Staff there will turn the information into a press release and submit it to the hometown media outlets identified through the Soldiers’ family members’ ZIP code. Pre-marital counseling
Those wishing to marry in a Fort Bliss chapel must have pre-marital counseling. A one-day class is offered from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. the first Thursday of every month in Bldg. 448. Lunch is provided. Crimeline
The Fort Bliss Directorate of Emergency Services has implemented a telephone tip line for reporting criminal activity. This new tip line is called Crimeline and is intended as a means for individuals with information on criminal activity to provide that information to the authorities while remaining anonymous. Crimeline is monitored by Fort Bliss Military Police only. The number is 744-COPS (2677).
UTEP ROTC

Newcomers’ orientation
This class covers all programs offered by Army Community Service as well as community resources. This is a mandatory class for all newly-assigned Soldiers, private through staff sergeant.
