The Fort Bliss men’s team placed first and the women placed third in Sunday’s Army Ten-Miler, thus living up to a promise the teams’ coach made in the months leading up to the race.
Before arriving in Washington, D.C., for the annual event, which drew the maximum 26,000 participants, Larry Smith said last week his objective was for both teams to finish within the top three of their respective active-duty team divisions. The men’s victory marked the first time in the race’s 24-year history that a Fort Bliss team won in any of the race’s military categories.
