Col. Peter A. Newell and Command Sgt. Maj. Phillip D. Pandy, command team of the 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Armored Division, unfurl the brigade’s colors during a transfer-of-authority ceremony Thursday at Contingency Operating Base Adder, Iraq. The Highlander Brigade took over for the 4th BCT, 1st Cavalry Div., and will operate across Dhi Qar, Maysan, and Muthanna provinces in southern Iraq.

CONTINGENCY OPERATING BASE ADDER, Iraq – Col. Philip Battaglia, commander of 4th Brigade Combat Team, 1st Cavalry Division, handed over responsibility for operations in the tri-province region of Dhi Qar, Maysan and Muthanna to Col. Peter Newell, commander of 4th BCT, 1st Armored Div., in a transfer-of-authority ceremony here Thursday.
The ceremony marked the end of the Long Knife Brigade’s tour, one their commander said was very successful.
