An An-124 Antonov Russian cargo jet sits on the tarmac of Biggs Army Airfield at the Departure/Arrival Airfield Control Group facility Tuesday. Contractors spent more than two hours loading two Russian Mi-17 Hip helicopters, owned by Fort Bliss’ 3rd Battalion, 210th Aviation Regiment, into the transport plane that was already carrying two UH-1 Huey helicopters as part of an aircraft loan to Pakistan whose forces will use them operationally for a year.

Soldiers hitch ride on plane headed to Southwest Asia

Dozens of Soldiers assigned to B Battery, 5th Battalion, 52nd Air Defense Artillery, and 47th Transportation Company, 1st Heavy Brigade Combat Team, departed Biggs Army Airfield on an airplane bound for Southwest Asia June 16.


The Soldiers will be deployed for a year in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

“This will be my first deployment. I am excited about being able to experience it,” said Spc. Gail Rogers, a signal support specialist with B Btry., 5th Bn., 52nd ADA.
